TMI Question

Alright ladies, I have a question that is totally TMI, but I need to ask. Have any of you ever used spermicides? If so, what is your opinion on them?

Long story short, I'm going off my birth control to try and regulate my hormones (aka kick start my sex drive), but we're not planing to TTC until May. I need a viable option for non-hormonal birth control and H doesn't...ah, perform....well with condoms. After researching it, I think spermicide along with trying to chart will be our best option. A lot of the other options are latex only, which I'm allergic to.

I'd appreciate any input/advice. :-/ Sorry for the TMI, but I knew if I could ask anyone, it would be you ladies!

Re: TMI Question

  • I've never used it, but I remember in my human sexuality class in college they said it was better to use it with a diaphragm so it stays near the Cervix. HTH

  • I went off bc on my wedding night.  We did the old fashioned "pull and pray" method for a year.  We got lucky, and then once we stopped that and started trying it took 6 months to get pregnant.
As Mana said, I think it's the most affective with a diaphragm.  Good luck, sorry I can't be more/any help.  You could discuss options with your doctor.
  • I have no suggestions regarding spermicides, but I had good luck just charting.

Good luck, I hope going off BC kick starts things for you. I have zero sex drive right now, also hormonal, it sucks!

I don't know anything about spermicide but I know a shit-ton about charting and natural fertility signs if you ever have a question about that!

  • Diaphrams are great. But I don't think you can get one anymore. I was reading somewhere they were stopped being made. So, spermicide, charting, female condoms, trying other regular condoms are really the only options anymore. Some companies are still making cervical caps. Best bet is to call your ob and find out what options are out there. Also, your insurance company might be helpful too.

  • I'd talk to your Dr about what your other options are. There's a non-hormonal IUD, but I don't think you'd want to have one of those put in if you're just going to have to have it removed to TTC in May.
