Re: Happy Friday

  • Tonight I am going to meet my dad at the brewery where he works so we can switch cars (long story) & also so I can buy beer.  Dinner somewhere or take out with DH.

Tomorrow I am trying bridesmaids dresses on for my cousin's June 2015 wedding.  I'm kind of excited bc I've been working out and feeling good about myself.  BUT I hate being measured.  I know what size I need, just order it for me.  If it needs to be altered I'll pay for it myself.  OH and my cousin's sister has totally taken over her wedding for her and it's so annoying.  I feel bad for her, but I don't want to butt in either.  I don't have a sister and I don't get the dynamic at all.

Sunday I need to CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN.  Ever since I stopped my private practice and got a desk job it's been so hard to keep up with cleaning and laundry.  I am so much less stressed out when things are clean.  I wish I had the good kind of OCD, where you compulsively clean, instead of the kind that makes me check the refrigerator door exactly 8 times, check the car door 2 times, tap the laundry door 4 times, etc etc etc before I can relax.

  • Tonight, probably nothing.  I'm so tired and I just want to go home and sleep.

Tomorrow, we have tickets to the Baylor game at the new stadium, but there's supposed to be thunderstorms all night so I'm debating going with H or not.

Sunday, we are meeting someone at our property to get a quote for lot cutting (making it even for the foundation).  We've gotten one quote already, but this guy is a friend of a friend so we are hoping he'll give us a better price.  Also, I want to work on some little decorations for the gender reveal party we're having.

  • Tonight we are going to Mockingjay!!!  Having a double date with my sister and her husband.  I'd be way more excited if I wasn't so tired.
Tomorrow I have a couple of my BFFs coming over to help me make freezer meals.  It's also our house-aversary.  We've now been home owners for 3 years!  We usually just toast a drink and hang in on house-aversary night.  I think this year we are toasting spoonfuls of ice cream! :)
    Sunday, no plans.
I'm hoping this false labor stops or becomes real labor.  Last night I got no sleep because of false labor.  Not fun.
  • Tonight is grocery shopping night. We need to start picking things up for Thanksgiving dinner. It's just H and me this year, but I feel like I'm cooking for an army. There's just certain traditional dishes that I can't give up, so I'm making them all but I'll just make less of everything.

Tomorrow H is working and I'm going to start my Thanksgiving prep. I want to get my pie crust made and in the freezer and start cutting up the veggies and get them into ziploc bags in the fridge. I'll probably also make the mini meatballs (mine are made out of chicken because I don't eat beef or veal. My grandmother makes hers out of veal and almost died when I told her that I make mine out of chicken) for Italian Wedding Soup this weekend too and freeze those until I'm ready to make the soup.

I should mention that I have an OCD system for Thanksgiving. I've been doing this prep schedule for Thanksgiving for years and it works well. I make my pie crust early and get it into the freezer. I thaw it in the fridge the night before I'm going to make the pie (I usually make pie the day before T-giving). I start cutting up veggies the weekend before T-giving and put those into ziploc bags in the fridge. There's 1 big gallon size bag for each dish and smaller bags of the veggie components for each dish go in that bag. That way, when I'm ready to make soup, for example, I pull out the soup bag and dump the chopped onion, celery, and carrots into the soup pot. Easy!

Maybe my OCDess over Thanksgiving should have been my confession Friday?! I can't help it, it's my favorite holiday.

  • @brainybrunette I say you share pics of your feast!  I want to see what everyone here makes!  I'm especially intrigued by the soup, is it like an italian soup?

  • It's a version of Italian Wedding soup that originated with my great-grandmother. It's basically chicken soup with tiny meatballs (like I said, traditionally it uses veal but I make mine out of ground chicken). Right before you're going to serve it, you bring the soup to a boil and whisk in a mixture of egg and parm cheese. The boiling soup cooks the egg and you get what's known as stracciatella (little ribbons of the egg/cheese).

I think my great-grandmother took the best of Italian wedding soup (chicken soup with the meatballs and escarole) and stracciatella (soup with the egg and cheese) and made up her own recipe. This has been the official soup of Thanksgiving (and funerals : /) in my family for many, many years.

My Pinterest Thanksgiving board has some of the recipes that I make.

  • Tonight - Dinner and Christmas shopping with the bestie.

Saturday - I'm on-call for work 7-3, boo. So I'll just be hanging around and hoping my phone doesn't ring for most of the day.

Sunday will probably be some general lazing and a grocery run for Thanksgiving stuff. I'm making dessert for dinner with the in-laws, and squash gratin and fresh cranberry sauce for dinner at my mom's.

  • I have the whole weekend off from work again:D I don;t know why they are giving me those days off and am afraid to ask because I like working Monday-Friday instead!!  I have no plans at all, but am hoping to go to church on Sunday and maybe a hike or something.  D and I haven't really gone out in a while and we enjoy hiking through the snow.  Or maybe show shoeing!

  • Tonight, relaxing, maybe some straightening up.  O had a rough night last night, so I am going to bed early.

Tomorrow morning, making my grandmother's stuffing.  I might bring her a little bit at the rehab facility.  Tomorrow afternoon is friendsgiving.  I might try to go to mass tomorrow evening and bring O for the first time.  It's time for her to go to mass.

Sunday, Thanksgiving with my family.  My brother and SIL are working on Thanksgiving, so my mom is cooking Sunday,

I am so excited for my 2 day week next week.  I'm not a fan of being a working mom.
