Has anyone been through probate?
Long story short we put an offer in on a home a couple of weeks ago only to find out the owner had passed away just a week before we got our offer in. The house had actually been pulled off the market because of this, but we didn't know that. The Realtor for the deceased owner told us to submit the offer and he'd present it with whoever gets the house in the will, as the family was still wanting to sell it.
Only now we are learning there was no will and the house is going into probate. Also the two children are fighting over it, which is ridiculous because they have both agreed to sell it, the lawyer told the Realtor they are fighting over the right to claim it as an asset or something. Either way, we're in limbo.
Has anyone ever been through the probate process when there was no will? We've been told it can take anywhere from 3-6 months up to a year even. I don't personally know anyone who's been through the process on either side and Google isn't being very helpful. At this point we have not retracted the offer, but are looking at more houses and have the right to retract the offer at any time.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.
