The Other Board. . .

So, after realizing that the Nest is actually pretty slow (not so much the money matters board) I found a link to where I guess everyone went. Holy mackerel they are mean over there. It is so much more mature over here. . . . just saying. . .

Re: The Other Board. . .

  • Are you referring to the bump?  They are AWFUL over there.  I can't believe grown women act like that.

The MM next board is a breath of fresh air... you guys are great! :)
  • I went to the proboards board the old users use and I am just super grateful this board is what it is.

  • I went to Proboards too, I haven't visited the Bump yet but have heard horror stories. On Proboards it's like some kind of pack mentality to gang up on one person saying something different to what they are used to and they don't stop. Very bullyish in my opinion. I love this board because you don't get attacked or ganged up on. It really is refreshing here.

  • I truly believe this is the most mature board on the Internet.

I lurk on TB sometimes when it's slow here, and will probably jump in once we TTC, but they are realllyyy quick to pick apart word choice there. Lots of people are being ridiculous and deserve it, but plenty don't.

I've never been to Probards but sounds no fun. A judgy money board would be awful.
  • I didn't look at the money board so much. But the married life board is horrendous.

  • I think it was Xstatic who once said to a newbie, "Welcome to the most rational board on the internet."

Honestly, I feel like money is hard enough without people ganging up on each other about it.  And unlike weddings and babies, it's not something that's a welcome topic of conversation in real life.

Not going to lie, I'm prone to be a bit judgy with things like weddings, but that's because a lot of the stuff people freak out about just doesn't matter ("OMG a random guest I don't know wore WHITE to MY WEDDING!!!  And I saw it in the PICTURES!!!").  Seriously.  Get over yourself.

Money issues are where it gets real, and those concerns really do matter.

That said, the bump is pretty entertaining.  When I'm having a bad day I lurk on the trying to get pregnant boards because the questions are almost guaranteed to make me laugh.

  • Considering that I started out on the bump, I have seen a lot of changes since MW started on it when we were expecting our son.  Our current BMB (baby month board) was so harsh that the first moderator not only quit but decided to take a brake from the bump.  Other groups have been just as bad to others.
  • So I don't think I am a completely unreasonable person. . . I was literally banned on my first day on proboards because I tried defending someone and that turned into I'm some sort of serial troll? I just heard of this board two days ago, wtf? Oh well I prefer y'all anyway.

  • The nest used to be what the Proboards is now.  So glad they left The Nest.   No more drama.
  • I have a BMB that I'm a part of too- but honestly im to the point where I consider this my home board. It seems like it is getting to be the same thing over there a lot, and I have been hanged up on before over stupid stuff so I don't participate nearly as much as I once did. I'm not one for drama, which is why I love this board. We can have civilized conversations without having sides or whatever.

Sounds right. Most boards have an unwritten rule of lurking for some time before commenting.

Honestly I didn't know a board like this ever existed until a couple years ago.  I went on TB when I first got pregnant and was on the first trimester board.  I had a lot of anxiety when I was pregnant and had been on ativan as needed prior to pregnancy.  I was trying to get info on what anxiety pills were OK to take when pregnant and damn did i get my ass jumped on.  People giving me crap that I didn't wait to get pregnant until I figured this anxiety issue out.  Only one person stood up for me.  My birth month board was pretty friendly in general and then after everyone had their babies the idea of an FB group was mentioned and we all jumped on that board - low and behold I had to jump that ship too because of all the girl drama.  I really don't get it.

  • Ditto the above comments.  I really enjoy the spirit of camaraderie on this board, and the unspoken agreement that drama and personal attacks (even if they're "okay" under the Nest/Bump/Knot TOS) are not considered acceptable here.

  • This is a nice board. (Hello lurker here) I've posted a couple times - I think my one long comment was a day I was in a crappy mood. Moral: do not grump and post. I like reading the advice. Most folks here are more extreme than I about money mgmt but it's good motivation.

Working Moms is my "home" board on the Bump. They're pretty great too, low drama, active enough. My BMB was nice till everyone fled to Facebook. It's such a crapshoot with the monthly boards though. Some are crazy bitchy and some are very nice!
