GTKY: About me and Where I live

Let’s see, I’m Bridget and I’m 26.  I’m kind of an outgoing “crazy” and like to try new things and am addicted to adrenaline.  Some of my favorite things are traveling, running half marathons, skydiving, drinking wine and craft beer, taking pictures, and decorating and remodeling our house.  I grew up on a farm right outside a small town of 600 people with my parents and older brother.

I attended Robert Morris College in Chicago and got my bachelors in Business Management.  While there, I did a 6 week study abroad program to London, England and traveled to 7 countries while there.  I am now an insurance agent just 1 town over from where I grew up, and handle the insurance for local farmers.

Where we live

We live in a rural town of 800 people near the IL/IA border.  There’s a Mennonite village just 1 mile out of town, and it’s common to meet a tractor on the drive home from work.  It’s a cute little town, but we have to drive 30 minutes for a grocery store and an hour for the nearest Starbucks.  The IL’s live just a mile out of town (right across the street from each other), and my parents are 20 minutes away in the town I grew up in.  It’s a place where everyone knows each other, but also watches out for each other too.

I like pictures, so here's some.

Re: GTKY: About me and Where I live

  • I went to college in a town near the IA/NE border and taught my first year in a very small town that sounds a lot like yours.  I LOVED it.  You are right, everyone knows everyone--but they look out for each other like family.

I bet your study abroad opportunity was amazing!  Jealous!

  • Fun! How many times have you gone skydiving? I did a tandem jump once, but truthfully, I didn't really find it that exciting (weird, I know). Anywhere else that you are hoping to travel to someday?

  • @futuremrswright2012 I have done 6 tandem jumps.  A good family friend is certified for tandem jumping, so I have gone up with him 5 out of the 6 times.  I want to get certified to jump alone, but H is very against me doing it now that we're married. :-(  Mostly because my life insurance excludes my skydiving because I've done it so many times.

There are so many places I would like to travel to still.  Hawaii, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Alaska, Iceland, St Lucia, Antigua.... just to name a few. ;-)

  • That's nice to be so close to someone to tandem with! I have friends (in CA) that are big into skydiving and the H is an instructor. They've been in a couple of those giant group sky dives for charity and world records. Sorry YH isn't interested in letting you get certified! :)

You definitely have to get to Hawaii, girl! Ah-mazing! I loved Kauai!
