That's very tempting to give it a try, but I'm cheap and don't want to pay $99 a year for a membership to be able to get slightly cheaper prices and faster shipping. When I could use coupons and/or buy off-brand at the store from the start and be in that same price point.

Wow, that seems very cheap! Hopefully it will help a lot of families.

I'm intruiged by trying cloth when the time comes, but not sure our washer can handle it. It's a high efficiency top loader and sometimes a little water pools in the bottom. We may very well take advantage of this in a couple of years. I love Amazon Prime!

Yeah it doesn't make sense if you're not already a Prime member. I've been a prime member for years, and we buy enough through Amazon that it pays for itself for us. For those who are members already, it could be worth a shot.

I wonder how well the diapers work? We don't use them anymore but LOVED pampers swaddlers and used all the way up to size 4. Most likely we will use those again next time. Cloth diapering wasn't worth it to me and it could be very costly with buying those outer covers.

it would be horrible - the thought just grosses me out although I know people are into it. We got the diaper genie and would put the diapers in there which contains the smell. When we were done with it - the smell was like stuck in the plastic and we had to wash it out and let it air dry before we stored it for the next kid. We spent on average $35-$40 per month on diapers - I'm not gonna be that cheap although I do love to save a dime.

Mine's not a fan either. I imagine the idea of buying USED cloth diapers would make his head explode! It probably wouldn't really work well with sending the kid to daycare anyway.

As for Prime, we have found we get the money back by doing lots of our shopping on Amazon. The prices tend to be great. I just ordered a raised garden bed kid and got it shipped for free even though it is bulky. Great for Christmas gifts, too.

Yes prime is great. I went to toys r us to look for toys for DD for xmas and only 1 toy was cheaper at that store. Everything else I will get on amazon.

You have to make the choice that works for your family, but we successfully used cloth diapers with 2 kids and definitely saved money. We got a diaper sprayer that really reduces the ick factor. It's basically a litter shower head that attaches to your toilet that you can use to rinse anything that needs rinsing. We even found a daycare that was willing to use the cloth diapers. We had to buy some of the more expensive pocket diapers for them (they are pretty much exactly like disposable diapers in terms of putting on and taking off), but otherwise it was no problem. I know that's not universal, but it might be worth checking with day care centers before ruling it out completely.

I tried so hard to get H on board with cloth, but when we really sat down and figured out the logistics of it and us both working full-time +. It just didn't make sense.

I still mention them every once in a while, but then remind myself that I would either need to buy enough diapers to last 5 days or do 2-3 loads of diaper laundry/week. We don't get home from work till 5:30ish, and are in bed by 9 because we're up so early to start our day. Just getting regular laundry done is a daunting task and most of the time waits for the weekend.

Then to have to get home each night and strip the diapers that were used at day care all day, on top of making dinner and having a little bit of family time. It just didn't seem worth it, even though I love saving money.

If I were to SAH or work part time, then I think the discussion would be completely different.

Agreed, We're also long-time prime members....there are so few shopping options around here we buy a lot on amazon, so the membership pays for itself. we started taking advantage of it when I could still get the student discount.

H and I would likely do something like this. Walmart/Target are 25+ minutes away and all the other parents on campus use prime for diapers and wipes to save time/gas/money.

MW just signed up for Amazon Mom and gets 3 months of Amazon Prime for free. We tend to do a decent amount of purchases a year on Amazon, but it usually comes in spurts around birthdays and Christmas.

It helps that we are 5 minutes away from our bulk outlet store and one of the shopping areas. I am not sure about how well Amazon diapers would be, we found that Huggies works best for our first. We will see how well they work with the second.

We purchase Pampers through Amazon subscribe and save. It's cheaper than buying the Target brand diapers or trying to buy Pampers from the store and using coupons. It's worked great for us.

I'm not a prime member so we will probably never do this. I am interested to hear the quality though. I'm also interested to look up how many is in each box by size. But I get diapers often cheaper than the prices that were listed so I wouldn't change to this- especially considering I would also have to pay for prime.

We use huggies and buy them at target with coupons, cartwheel, and their credit card. Other brands leaked for us and it's easier to buy what works. DD#2 doesn't have much interest in potty training, but she'll get there... it'll be great to not have to buy diapers anymore.

You have to do what works for your family and you could be very well correct that CD'ing would be too much for your family. However, I have found it to be extremely easy, cost effective and really takes very little time. Both DH and I work full-time, but diaper laundry and care takes me all of a few minutes each week. I mean less than 30min a week. It is starting a load of laundry and transferring it to the dryer. We did 2 loads a week when DD was an infant/early toddler, and that dropped to 1 load per week when she was close to 2.

I should also say my DH was very skeptical about cloth prior to DD's arrival, but he's a total convert now. There are a lot of pro's to cloth diapering aside from just cost savings.
