STORY OF ME & MY MR. (W)RIGHT
Us in the early days (2009)
J and I met working in a pediatric ER in late-2007. I was a nurse, at the time, and J was a respiratory therapist (RT). He rotated into my department periodically for a couple of months before we really started to notice each other. Actually, he had attended a pediatric life support class that I taught several months earlier, but I didn’t remember him (although I did remember his friend, whoops). Then, one day, with a little nudge from a friend, we exchanged phone numbers, and I requested him on MySpace L-). We went out for drinks and to play pool soon after. Apparently, I spilled my entire life story to him on that first date (including my life with my ex-H which included years of physical/emotional abuse and infidelity). I say “apparently” because I truthfully didn’t remember doing this… must have been my nerves. Needless to say, he was a little freaked out and worried that he was dating a train wreck. Thankfully, besides that overly revealing first date, I was not a crazy person, and we hung out more and more in the coming months. We moved in together about 6 months after we first started dating, and then were engaged at about the 3-year mark. He surprised me with a proposal during his birthday weekend on a trip to California, along the rocky shoreline in La Jolla at sunset.
We got married in April 2012 at a wedding venue in Scottsdale, AZ. It was a perfect day… Not too hot just yet. Our wedding colors were apple green and hot pink. J and I did a first look, which was good, because I was a crying mess already. It definitely helped take the stress off.
Re: GTK all about FMW (Pic heavy)
When we got engaged in La Jolla, we had dinner at a nice Italian restaurant near the shore and listened to a musician (JoJo Hahn). We loved him, and while eating dinner, we jokingly thought to ourselves, we should totally get him to play at our wedding. We met him briefly after dinner as he was closing up and asked if that was something he’d do, and he said yes. He ended up learning our first dance song (Adele’s version of Make You Feel My Love) and played during the ceremony, and cocktail and dinner hours.
I did a lot of DIY, including wildflower seed packets as our favor, our invitations and all printed materials, and other décor. I love projects (as J will attest to), so I was in heaven for months leading up to the wedding.
At the end of the night, we were sent off with sparklers and headed to our hotel on J’s motorcycle. My mom was a nervous wreck. X_X
Our honeymoon was in Belize where we completed our open water scuba diving certification. It was beautiful! We also visited Mayan ruins, zip lined, and went on a cave diving excursion where J was convinced he was going to die. He got claustrophobic in the cave (major panic attack), and it didn’t help that our guide told us we were going to be in this cave floating down the river for 2 hours straight. In reality, we were only actually in the cave for about 5-10 minutes at a time. Once J could see some light ahead, he was fine.
Post-meltdown. J

WORK LIFE
I am a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in a specialty that cares for children with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, developmental delays, in-utero drug exposure, etc. I absolutely love love love my job, and I feel so lucky that I learned about this specialty with a clinical rotation during my NP program. The progress that I am able to witness and be part of with these kiddos and their families is so rewarding.
J decided a few years ago that the medical field was not for him, so he quit work as an RT and is currently pursuing an environmental science degree. Unfortunately, he is having to return to work as an RT again to help pay the IVF bills, but we’ll get him out of the medical setting soon!
HOME LIFE
We have 3 adorable fur babies all with very different personalities. Kit is a yellow lab, and seriously the most chill/mellow lab we’ve ever met. Abby is a boxer and is completely nuts and super loving all at the same time. Kaleah is a mini-mutt (and the first born) and has battles with J often about who’s alpha-dog… She hasn’t won yet but keeps trying. Silly girl.
I don’t really have any hobbies that I do on a regular basis, but I love snowboarding, hiking, exercising, and going to sporting events.
We are currently in the process of moving from Northern Arizona (where there’s 4 seasons and mountains) back to the Phoenix-area (blech!). Our home will be sold as of January 2nd, and we’ll be renting a house for the next couple of years. It feels like we’re taking a step backwards, but this is what needs to happen to make our dreams of expanding our family a reality. Hopefully, by the time we’re 40, J will have his degree (finally!), we’ll have a kiddo (or a few J), and then, we’re heading to the Northwest to plant our roots.
I think that’s probably more about me than you cared to know, but there it is! Thanks if you made it all the way to the end!
