Re: Monday Accountability

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Ours wasn't bad for once!  We spent about $66 on groceries and $55 filling up both cars with gas.  We also spent $10 at Home Depot for a large picture hanging kit (we have a bunch that need to be hung still).  Our Christmas shopping is 100% done, and I'm happy to have a low-key rest of the month.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Not yet... I'm supposed to find out this week if I will advance to the next level, which would involve a small raise next year.  All we've been told is we will find out sometime this week.  Still waiting to hear, though...

    3. What's your favorite activity to get you in the holiday spirit?

Probably Christmas music!  My mom is a piano player, and she and I usually play duets around the holidays.  My H has also written some trios for us so he can join in now as well (he's a clarinet player & composer, I'm a flute player).  Oh and I looooove spritz cookies.  My H has a Christmas gig in Atlanta this weekend, so I'm going to make a bunch of cookies while he's gone...

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

not bad, everything fit in the budget (we're using some of the money from being underbudget last month to cover the wedding/bridal shower stuff)

Friday-$42-crate and barrel-wedding gift for January

Saturday-$44-haircut, $13 post show drinks after The Nutcracker

Sunday-$48 groceries, $29 finishing off a bridal shower and adding to wedding gift (we bought them their french press off their registry...found some cute mugs...plan to buy some locally roasted coffee just before the wedding), $35 wings and beer at local trivia night

    2. Any progress towards goals?

working with boss to redefine my position (...promotion and raise should be in the works for the beginning of the year!!)

    3. What's your favorite activity to get you in the holiday spirit?

Baking and decorating cookies...I go all out most years (i still have lots of sugary decorations and cinnamon chips left from last year, so I'm hoping I don't have to spend a lot this year). I usually spend a weekend after the house is decorated playing Christmas music and decorating cookies.

me too! though I haven't pulled mine out a lot in the last year or so because it drives the dog crazy.

My H started practicing a bit this past weekend to get his chops up for his gig this coming weekend.  The cat was being such a sweetheart, and then the moment she heard him start to play it's like she got cat brain and aggressively attacked my laptop of all things. We have to banish her to the basement when she gets like that.

OMG, my cat broke H's laptop screen one time I decided to practice! They must hear something we can't.

    2. Any progress towards goals?
H got a bonus so we're just trying to figure out where it will go.

    3. What's your favorite activity to get you in the holiday spirit?
Christmas music! I listen to it all the time.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Pretty good- groceries ($127), Target ($52), dinner ($30)

    2. Any progress towards goals? Our sewer job is complete- no more clay tile with roots to cause all sorts of problems! Final bill $8,200 put on a credit card with 0% for 15 months. Goal is to have it paid off by December 2015 (we'll shoot for sooner, but I don't want to stretch us too thin when we're not paying any interest). Our yard is a mess, but once it's spring, we'll get the sidewalks redone (one got pretty busted up and the others are a little wonky from tree roots), front yard reseeded and landscaped. Just happy to have it done!

    3. What's your favorite activity to get you in the holiday spirit? Decorating our house- I don't like a lot of decorations (not a fan of clutter), but the pieces we do have all mean a lot to us. I made the girls an advent calendar this year and they (especially our oldest) like to take the felt ornament out of the numbered pocket each morning and hang it on a button on the felt tree. This time of year is so fun with little ones.  :)

  • It's been so long since I've been on the board. I finally started working again today after 12 weeks off. I hate using thenest on mobile.

    1. How MM was your weekend?

Not bad considering I was in Disney last week. We got back Saturday so I had to do a stock up on groceries for the month/week. We both had to put gas in our cars, and I withdrew our allowances for the month. So far, everything is within budget.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Not right now since I just started back to work, but I'm hoping that with the upcoming paychecks, I will be able to take care of this month's expenses without dipping into our savings account. If we don't touch it, I will take what I saved for payoff and pay off some debt that we have. I'm also starting the new budget for the upcoming year and for January. I'm hoping that we can buckle down and really try to confine what we spend now that we have two kids in daycare.

    3. What's your favorite activity to get you in the holiday spirit?

The Christmas music! I love listening to it. I also love decorating my house and watching Christmas movies with my family.

  • 1 - it was pretty good.  I took DH out for his bday Friday night (dinner and a movie with DD).  I had money in my account saved for it and spent $40.  We spent $30 at Target on Sunday.  I think that was it :)

2 - Not this week.  Goal this month is to stay in the xmas budget

3 - decorating the xmas tree inside the house and baking cookies with DD gets me in the spirit.

  • 1.  It was really, really not frugal.  I hesitate to give the actual numbers, but our three favorite bands all had concert tickets go on sale the same week and we bought tickets for all of them.  I know.  In fairness, we rarely go to concerts unless it is bands we truly love, but it all happened the same week.  Some extra work I've picked up at side jobs this month will pay for them.  We also spent $50 on dinner with family after services for H's uncle, $17 on beer to bring to the family house after dinner (it was a big group), filled up both cars, and spent $70 on groceries and household products.

    2.  Contributions to the e-fund have continued as planned.  I didn't set up my automatic Roth IRA contribution yet but will do so tonight.

    3.  Buying and decorating our tree, for sure!  I can't wait.  We'll get ours sometimes this week.
  • 1. spent about $30 of fun money on items that I needed, $28 gas 2. 1000 to mortgage principle, 168 to house down payment 3. Decorating, Christmas music and movies!
  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Not good, went roughly $200 over what I was hoping for.  I did get a little Christmas shopping done though.

    2. Any progress towards goals? Did make an $80 payment to my credit card this includes our YMCA membership dues.

    3. What's your favorite activity to get you in the holiday spirit?  I like the classic cartoons and shows.  Most of the modern ones are not as good.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? We spent $0. It was nice.

    2. Any progress towards goals? None this week sadly. But we are on track to put $1000 into our e-fund on the 15th.

    3. What's your favorite activity to get you in the holiday spirit? Snow. I put some Christmas music on and just get the warm and fuzzies. Haha.

  • 1. Weekend was great. We spent about $35 on lunch and dinner out Saturday. I was at a craft fair/ Christmas event all day and DH brought LO to play in the snow, and to play around in general for several hours so that was great.
    2. No real progress on paying off the mortgage, but we are starting to feel like we know what to expect for the household bills so we maybe able to start paying $100-200 more every month.
    3. Christmas music is the best thing for gettig in the holiday spirit. I love to decorate too, but I haven't done much this year because C wants to touch it all and it gets old having to redecorate every day.

  • 1.  Didn't do too bad.  Spent $75 on groceries, and $2 on Redbox.  I'll take it!  Also received a bunch of things for baby at my shower.  Now we no longer need to worry about buying the crib mattress, and can cross some necessities off the list of things to buy.

    2. Got my Christmas bonus.  However, my car had been in an accident about a month ago and was in the shop.  So while it was there, we asked the shop how much it would cost to fix existing damage to the bumper and repaint it (the previous owners had backed into something and never fixed it).  So $200 of my Christmas bonus went toward that, but I'm fine with it.  We plan to keep the car for a very long time, and the $200 it cost to repair the damage, we will definitely get back out if we decide to sell it at some point because now we don't have to advertise it with damage to the bumper.

    3. Decorating our house gets me into the Christmas mood.  I put up about 1,000 feet of garland.  It's a bit excessive, but looks gorgeous with all of our Victorian details.
