In some ways I really liked this series and then in other ways it annoyed me.

Pros:
Loved the beginning at the asylum
Love that she didn't just end up with the very first cute boy she meets/dates (a regular trend in YA)
Liked the storylines overall

Cons:
The prose got on my nerves at times
Didn't like how much Warren loved her immediately
Thought Juliette's rise to power and her idea to beat the Reestablishment/take control was very sudden, simplistic, and unlikely considering she has no experience in basically everything.

Has anyone else read this series? Thoughts?

  • I agree with you on most of this. I really liked the first book and actually liked the flowery sometimes repetitive prose because it felt true to a person like Juliette left only to her own mind for so long.

The first and second books I was really into, but a lot about the last book just had me rolling my eyes. I really liked the way her friendship with Kenji developed in the last book, but I hated the way the author diminished Adam and made him act like such a dick so she could justify Juliette choosing Warner in the end. Plus, yeah, what you said about this sixteen year old girl with no skills taking over the world.

  • I really liked the first book because it was different (despite the awful writing).

I hated how wimpy Juliette was in the second book.

The third book was better but I never like Warren.  I thought he was creepy and didn't believe that they would actually end up together.

Pretty much ditto this.  I really enjoyed the series overall though.
