Re: Thursday Randoms

  • Everyone in Northern California is freaking out about the "Storm Of The Century". Like, many of the school are closed. (Rain day?) Granted, it's raining and windy, but panic much? Unless you live in a flood prone area, or in higher elevations, people just need to CALM THE EFF DOWN. It's going to be really bad weather, and I hope everyone stays safe, but seriously. The media is causing widespread hysteria over this, which can be just as dangerous as the storm.

  • There better be some HP t-shirts under the tree for me this year or I am go to throw a total hissy fit. That's all.

  • I haven't eaten anything substantial since yesterday morning. The only thing I want other than water is cranberry juice. I tried to heat of some broth, but the smell turned my stomach. I've been battling this freaking fever for about 24 hours now. It's low grade most of the time, but early this morning it spiked to over 101. Other than the fever the only thing wrong is food aversion, so I have no clue what the heck this is.

  • I got my scores on Monday. I passed the national licensure exam I was studying so much for! Still on cloud nine.

I'm making two different kinds of cookie dough today to get ready for Christmas.

I spent $73.47 on Amazon and only half was toward Christmas gifts. I really suck at fighting impulses haha.
    Congrats!

  • RANT: My co-worker is what we'll call "technologically challenged" to the point of being EXTREMELY frustrating. She's constantly asking the most basic questions about how to operate her phone, computer, printer, etc.

Lately, she's taken to claiming that English isn't her first language as the excuse for not understanding how to use her computer. This would totally be a valid response... if it were true. However, I know that she was born and raised 2 hours south of here, went to English speaking public schools, an English speaking University and got her CA at another English speaking school. I hear her on the phone with her mother at least once per week and they speak only English. She's told me numerous times that her brother speaks only English.

She lived and worked in France for 2 years in her 20's (she's now in her mid 50's) and apparently that means that French is now her first language. Or sometimes she says it's Italian, because... you know.... her family's roots are from Italy.  It's like me saying that my first language is Gaelic because my ancestors came from Scotland.

She couldn't access her voicemail today and blamed the fact that I was giving her the password in English as the reason she couldn't figure it out (it was all numbers.... she's an accountant). I called her on it and said "YOU WERE BORN AND RAISED IN CITYNAME" to which she replied, "ya, but my family's Italian".

  • So by that reasoning, I should speak German, Gaelic, and Dutch in addition to English.

Lol ... sadly, no. We should both get working on that. You take Scots and I'll do Irish. Aye?

The only thing missing is a copy of Push Girl.

  • Today is my last day of work this year.  I'm super depressed about it.  And also super anxious about my upcoming trip to Indiana for a week with the niece and nephews.  I realize that loving my job so much I don't want a vacation is a wonderful problem to have, given the hell that was my last job, but it still sucks that I have to take so much time off.

  • @julie37619 where will you be in Indiana?

  • @Caseyandlizzie Valparaiso, near Chicago.  I'd love to see any nesties in the area (@packfan or @cnthrdlywt2bwz) but I won't have a car while I'm there, so I'm pretty much stuck in that general area.

  • I checked out 6 books in preparation for the two weeks I'll be off recovering from foot surgery next week. And I have digi holds. I'm ready...I think.  Kind of freaked out by how many people get infections from surgery though. I mean, this isn't my first rodeo, but it's wigging me out esp. since my Granny is looking at losing her leg post-surgery.

Also, I really resent the fact that I caught a kid plagiarizing and I have to drive 45 minutes out of my way tomorrow for his hearing and he gets to phone in from wherever it is he lives because he's going home for break tonight.  Why can't I call in???
    image
  • @sassypants527 I happen to know six people who had foot surgeries of different kinds at four different hospitals - all of them recovered well and there were no infections. This is irrelevant to your particular situation, but I thought I'd share. Yay for unlimited reading time!

And ew to your second point. They should let you call in too!

Thanks, @booknerd226 I know I am probably being irrational, but I'm a worrywart. I've had the other foot done with no problems...it just seems like there are so many stories of infection, flesh eating bacteria, other horrible tales. *shudder*
    image
  • @sassypants527 I get you. I am a worrywart about everything, especially hospitals. How can it be so clean if everyone and everything there is getting covered in germs all the time?? But then I remember that I've been known to eat food off my kitchen floor, which is not the cleanest floor lol.
