Give me advice

My FIL is coming out for baby's birth. D was going to give him money to help with the ticket, but today BIL asked for money to help buy him a plane ticket to see him for Xmas. I don't think we should give any money. What do you think?

Re: Give me advice

  • Hmm, I think if you are going to give money it should be for him to come see the baby. But if it will make funds tight then don't give the money.

  • No to both. They can wait for you to fly out and see them when the time is right. I hate mixing money and family.
  • That's what I think Jen. They will never pay it back and then expect more in the future.

Also my mom is coming and paid for her own flight then mailed us $100 for Christmas. I know she can't afford it she makes minimal, but she says it's fine.

All and all my mom and FIL have had poor financial planning and I am scared it will fall onto us in the future.

This is why I wouldn't give it.  You'll be paying for every trip from now to forever. :(

My neighbour's daughter had paid for her to fly out a few times, but my neighbor had also been flying out on her own.

  • I'm going to agree. Don't mix it. It's just going to get too crazy.
