Re: Christmas Recap

  • Love the post!

Best gift- video camera from my parents and a ring from Mr (I can't get the pic to work, but it is the Alexis Bittar multi stone vine ring).

    No bad gifts received.

We had pork loin Christmas Eve and fried turkey Christmas Day. I want to eat it all again!!

AW- Mr and I went to Biltmore Tuesday and stayed overnight and had an amazing pre Christmas trip!! It was so beautiful and great for us to have the one on one time.

  • Best Gift: Month worth of yoga classes from my Mom and ***BR**** - Coach diaper bag from DH.

Worst Gift: IDK, I really wasn't disappointed at all.

What we had for dinner: We had 3 dinners, Ravioli, filet mignon and ham and lasagna. We celebrate Xmas 3 times so we get a variety of things.

FFC/AW/Random: I was awake from 3:30-5:45 this morning and ended up sleeping through my 6:30 alarm, only to wake up at 8:05. I live 30 minutes from work and am expected in at 8:50-8:55. Needless to say, this morning has been shitty.

    BFP 7/6/14~~~EDD 3/14/15~~It's a girl!!~~
  • Best gift: a wine cooler from H that holds 18 bottles.

Worst gift: just some random things that I won't use. I really appreciate the thought behind the gifts, but I wish people would save their money rather than buy things that won't be used.

Dinner: my brother made a large turkey dinner, but we left before it was served. We had a 4+ hour drive home, so we ate grilled cheese once we made it home.
  • Best Gift: DH bought me a cute necklace with an Eiffel Tower charm. When I opened it, he said, "I'm glad you liked Paris because I'll probably have to go back this summer." Squee!
Worst Gift: It's a toss up. BIL and SIL sent us stemless wine glasses. I really don't like stemless. There's just something about a gorgeous long stem on a wine glass that contributes to the whole experience of drinking wine for me. *shrug* We also don't need any wine glasses. Seriously. We have about 30 of them. My sister bought me a shirt that doesn't fit. It's way too big. I hope it will shrink a bit in the wash and just be good for hanging around.
What we had for dinner: Prime Rib. Yum!
FFC/AW/Random: ***LR*** I had a bit of a mental breakdown on the way home. Both sides of the family kept saying how "perfect" this Christmas was and how nice it was to have the whole family together. All I could think about was how this was supposed to be our first Christmas with Poppyseed and how empty we felt. We put on the happy faces and played the part, but this Christmas was anything but perfect for us. It hurt to hear everyone else say how amazing this holiday was when I was crushed inside thinking about our empty arms.
I'm with you...I hate stemless wine glasses.

And, I'm sorry you had a rough time <3

  • Best Gift: Spending Christmas in NYC with DH - and the tickets my parents bought us to the Rockettes!

Worst Gift: This isn't a bad gift, but something that bugs me: every year my brother and SIL put together a lovely calendar with pictures of my niece and nephew.  I love it.  But, I wish they would contact my sister and have all five kids (4 nieces and 1 nephew) in one calendar together! I always feel bad putting up a calendar with 2 of the 5.

What we had for dinner: We went to Chinatown in NYC and found a little place without a huge line-up.  We had some soup, wontons, Singapore noodles, pork buns, etc.

FFC/AW/Random: I had a few tears Christmas morning because I miss my family.  My sister and brother both live thousands of kilometres away (in different places) and I just wish I could have my whole family together on Christmas morning.

  • Best Gift: A weekender bag from my MIL. I love it.  And, an amazing new hair dryer - random, but it's awesome.

Worst Gift: Cleaning supplies and two hideous house decorations.

What we had for dinner: We had several Christmas parties on different days with different parts of the family.  On actual Christmas day, we had brunch (egg casserole, cinnamon rolls, fruit, etc) and were still super full at dinner so we just had dessert (peppermint ice cream) and skipped the whole meal.

Random: I always love Christmas Mass, and this year it was just "meh."  I'm still a bit disappointed in it.  Also- H and I are the grinches on our block who don't do Christmas lights.  I really don't care about that.

  • Best Gift: cash :)
Worst Gift: it's a tie between a tabletop wok (think like a fondue set but only a wok) and a butter keeper (courtesy of MIL).
What we had for dinner: we had an early lunch (at MILs) - prime rib, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad, stuffing
FFC/AW/Random: MIL gives the worst gifts.

  • Best Gift: DH got me a Fitbit. Anyone have any advice??

Worst Gift: *BR* My mom bought me nursing pads and bras. Practical, yes, but something I will buy myself without issue.

What we had for dinner: Christmas Eve was ravioli, pasta and meatballs. Christmas dinner was turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and fresh rolls.

FFC/AW/Random: *LR/BR* It was our first Christmas without FIL who passed in February, our angel baby would have been here by Christmas, and watching DH open his gift of a diaper bookbag, I lost it. I just can't imagine the range of emotions he was feeling but he stayed mostly stone faced and strong for me. Also, a little lighter but still *BR* my great aunt called me 'fatty, fatty' at our get together. Umm..not ok.
  • Best gift: I got an automatic car starter in November.

    Worst: nothing too terrible.

Dinner: prime rib. Really not a fan of the way it was prepared.

AW/FFC/Random: christmas with my family got moved bc my mom had the flu. It was also cut down to a two hour celebration. I should have been sad, but we got to go home and take a nap before going to the ILs, and it was amazing.

A science experiment kit.  You know, blowing up things and making baking soda/vinegar volcanos.
Awesome! I bet they loved it!

  • Best Gift: All-Clad brunch pan from DH.
Worst Gift: Lotions and shower gel that I'll never use from both my mom and sisters.
What we had for dinner: Christmas Eve feast of the seven fishes (we had 11 to choose from) yum. Christmas day I made traditional French boeuf bourguignon (beef, bacon, red wine), bouchees parmentier au fromage (potato cheese sticks were the app), and gratin savoyard (potatoes, cheese, beef stock). Dinner was amazeballs.
FFC/AW/Random: So my sisters had given me tickets to a football game for my birthday back in July. $300. Very generous. After (LR) losing the twins, DH and I weren't up for going so they used the tickets themselves because they didn't want to sell them. For Christmas they "replaced" the gift and gave me a Christmas gift. Smelly lotion/shower gel and a gift card for the salon I use for $100. I'm not saying I won't use it, I will. I'm not saying the dollar amount matters either. But I find it very weird that they spent $300 in July for my birthday and spent a third of it for a combined Christmas and birthday gift. Whatever, I know what they got me was more than generous. I just think it's weird for the value of a gift to change. I'm selfish.

lol. It's the Julia Child recipe in the Art of French Cooking. I don't know if it is online anywhere. It seriously was amazing. Everyone loved it. I doubled the recipe and used two bottles of wine to cook it.

  • Best Gift: Aquamarine/diamond earrings from DH. <3 Very sweet, but we were both in tears.
Worst Gift: Not really "worst" because I am grateful to have received anything, but I'm honestly not a huge fan of gift cards, which is all we received. I just think it is so impersonal. I'd rather have a gift I'd never use that had some thought put into it, than a gift card... I'm probably an anomaly though...
What we had for dinner: Christmas breakfast with mom and step-dad at our new house included cinnamon rolls (from scratch) and biscuits and gravy. Christmas dinner at mom's included pork tenderloin (for meat eaters), avocado enchiladas (for vegetarians - meh), and all the traditional sides (including the unfortunate boxed mashed potatoes). My mom and her H are not the best at cooking from scratch (mostly canned and boxed concoctions). Thanksgiving at our friends' was not much better. Next year, all holiday meals will be at our house. :)
FFC/AW/Random: Our house sale closed today! It feels so good to be free of that burden. Now, it's time for H to get his RT certification back so he can start working again, and then major debt pay-off and saving up mode.
