This is a thing everywhere, right? Not just New England? I got my first (partial) bill at the new higher rate and I want to puke. J did the math and it's up 69%. Of course I live where we have the most idiotic electric company (remember Unitil with the ice storm?) with some of the highest rates. I'm shocked that more people I know aren't talking about this.

Re: Electric Bills
Ours was actually lower and I am embarrassed to say that I'm pretty sure it's because I was gone the entire billing period. I like to be comfortable.

The bills of customers formerly served by Commonwealth Electric, including Cape Cod and much of the South Shore, will go up by a similar amount, from $101 to $129."

Our electric bill has been really low the last two months--less than $100 for a 2400 sf house.
Now, talk to me in the summer. The bills look MUCH different.
I live in Texas for reference.
This is us, too. I like knowing that I won't get hit with a really high bill one month.

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."
