QOTD 1/8

This is a WWYD.

So one day you got to the mailbox and there is a new magazine in the pile.  It does not have your name on it but it does have your address on it.  It is not one of the old owners of the house.  A week or so later you get another issue of the magazine addressed to the mystery person.  Then you get a post card from the magazine saying that they received the mystery person's change of address.  You check your resources to see if the mystery person is the new people that moved in down the street and its not.

Would you let it be or call the magazine?

PS The magazine is the New Yorker.  I tried to read it and couldn't get past the cover on any of them.

Re: QOTD 1/8

  • I'd probably let it be.  I'd assume the people that are supposed to be getting the magazine would contact them and take care of it.

  • I'd let it be too.  We get SO many things from like 4 prior people in our apartment, it's overwhelming.

  • May not hurt to at least inquire. I had a slightly similar thing happen where I was getting emails to my personal email account from a health company based in an entirely different state than the one I live in about some patient's medical records. I felt uncomfortable getting these messages since I felt like I was breaching onto somebody's information. So I called. Apparently someone goofed up and missed a letter in their email address (we had the same name and middle initial. They apparently spelled theirs with an h at the end) So, it was coming to me instead.

  • If it was something that requires a paid subscription I'd call and fix it.

  • For a magazine, I wouldn't bother. The other day though, I got an auto-call from a Walgreens in a city 4 hours away from me telling me my prescription refill was ready. That I did call about and got corrected, because I didn't want the error to prevent someone from getting needed meds.

  • I think I would contact the magazine and try to straighten it out.  I would be upset if I were the person whose magazine was being delivered to the wrong address and I paid for it.
  • I'd probably call just so I wasn't getting a magazine I didn't want.

  • Oh, this reminded me that I should probably call the newspaper that keeps delivering to our house...the previous owners paid for a subscription and are likely still paying over 2 years later since we keep getting the paper. but I don't like those people so I kind of want to make them pay for it still...its not my fault they didn't cancel!

  • I'd do nothing about a magazine.  If it's something more important I'd put it in the neighbor's mailbox with a note to get the address corrected.
