On the news this morning, there was a report about it being illegal in some states to take your kids out of school to go on a family vacation. They didn't list the states. How do you feel about this?

Re: QOTD 1/21
Yea I call BS. I always got out the week of Thanksgiving to go to NC to see family. I got my homework turned in, and any new assignments before I left. Maybe if parents stepped up the state wouldn't have to. Maybe there should be a max days missed?
ETA - by parents stepping up, I mean making sure the kid doesn't get behind because of the days missed... getting assignments etc.
Last year, I had to kid go out of the country for a month for a family emergency. I called to let the mother know he had work coming with him. He did not bring the work with him because he "forgot." It is quite frustrating as a teacher. Thinking about last year, I also had a girl go on a 10 day cruise prior to a vacation. She didn't come to school for the few days before the cruise. Including the vacation, she missed 3 weeks of school and also didn't bring any work with her. She did have a nice tan though!
