I'm on a non-fiction roll!

Of 5 books read this year, 4 have been non-fiction!
I'm shooting for 50/50 this year and am happy to be padding this early on ;)

I've read Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth, The Hard Way on Purpose by David Giffels, The Most Dangerous Animal of All, by Gary L. Stewart, and Such Good Girls by R.D. Rosen.

Anyone else read any good non-fiction so far?

  • You know it!  Pilgrim's Wilderness: A True Story of Faith and Madness on the Alaskan Frontier, The Devil and Sherlock Holmes: Tales of Murder, Madness, and Obsession, Small Victories: Spotting Improbable Moments of Grace, and Humans of New York.

Is this the same as the FB account? or are there extra words? Their FB feed is my favorite thing on the whole internet.

I read the e-book version and it was honestly just the best selections from the account.  It would make a cool coffee book table, but if you're already a fan of the site, you may have already seen them all.  It's the same amount of words - just short captions and sometimes a quote.

  • I read The Sixth Extinction and it was really good!  It made me increase my places I want to visit list but also made me incredibly sad at how quickly humans are obliterating other species.

Good to hear!  I just bought a copy of this for our library - now I know to take it home before I process it!

  • I just finished The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony and it was so great! It captured a lot of the aspects of conservationism in the African Bush. It was not a Caesar Milan type deal - I promise. There are all kinds of action scenes and more information about other animals, indigenous tribes, and more. A few sad parts but lots of happy ones too.
  • I just finished In the Heart of the Sea and it was great! It's about a whaling expedition in the 1800s that was the inspiration for Moby Dick. It's coming out as a movie later this year (with Chris Helmsworth, mmmm).

Now I'm reading Gulp by Mary Roach and loving it so far. She is so funny and manages to write about the weirdest things and make them incredibly interesting. I never thought I would laugh out loud reading about saliva research.
