Monday Accountability

1. How MM was your weekend?

2. Any progress towards goals?

3. What winter sport have you never done but would like to try?

Re: Monday Accountability

  • 1. $20 Gas, $20 Home Depot, $5 Walmart

    2. $675 to house fund

    3. I used to snowboard when I was younger, but I've always wanted to try skiing. It looks A LOT easier! LOL

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Pretty good- groceries ($159). Not MM related at all, but we registered DD#1 for Kindergarten on Friday- she'll be going to one of the best elementary schools in the area. I can't believe she'll start school in the fall... time goes fast!

    2. Any progress towards goals? $1,000 went to our vacation savings account and $500 went to general savings. We'll probably add $2,500 each to our 2015 Roth IRAs next month. The basement floors are also all painted- walls are going to get worked on when DH is home for February break. Even though it's an unfinished basement, it looks a lot better down there and the girls love their art space.

    3. What winter sport have you never done but would like to try? DH takes the girls ice skating (I watch) and I would love to learn how to do that just so I can go out on the ice with them.

  • 1. H was out of town for a man weekend, so I visited my family on Satuday and Sunday, I binged on Downton Abbey and cleaned. I don't think I spent a dime either day! Friday we had Goodcents subs for dinner, so I would say we did well for once!

    2. This Thursday we'll be putting $1,000 in savings (for our bathroom remodel), $1,700 on my student loan, and then paying the last $750 owed on our cruise in May. We're SO close to paying off my student loan - I can't wait until it's gone!!!

    3. No winter sports for me. I like to water ski but have never seen the appeal of snow skiing. I hate the cold.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

We spent a lot of money this weekend, but it was all budgeted.  We have a guy demo'ing the back half of our house to move a wall and install canned lights through most of the house.  We bought light fixtures, new fans, and opted to go with LEDs for all of the cans.  They are more expensive than incandescent, but they use so little energy that I'm not worried about overloading our (old) panel with them.  Besides, it should lower our power bills, and I probably won't have to replace a light bulb in this house ever again.  Other than that, we spent $24 on gas and about $60 on groceries.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

It looks like we have a strong chance of coming in under budget for this project.  We have bought all of the expensive stuff, and this guy gave us an incredibly low quote for his labor.  I don't anticipate adding much to his workload, so I think we'll be under budget by several hundred.  We will see.

    3. What winter sport have you never done but would like to try?

Bobsledding.  @Jessica490, snowboarding is MUCH easier than skiing!  I've done both.  It took me a couple seasons to learn how to ski.  Took me about 3 hours to learn how to snowboard.  Skiing is a lot harder on your knees and ankles too.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

A little spendy, but it was all budgeted for. $160 for DD#1 birthday party; $30 for gas; $5 for drinks; $36 for groceries

    2. Any progress towards goals?

I set up my transfers/payments for my bills at the end of the month. This helps pay off 3 cards! I now have my two large cards left to pay off. One will be paid off with our tax refund, and the other will have half paid off. The remainder should be paid off in 1 month or 2 (depending on overtime).

    3. What winter sport have you never done but would like to try?

I've always wanted to try snowboarding. The only thing winter related I have ever done was ice skating.

  • 1. $36 for date night Friday and $68 for groceries Sunday, both budgeted for. I won $70 for winning my fantasy football league and I used $60 of it to buy a cube storage thing with fabric cubes from Big Lots. The other $10 is going to a baby gift for a coworker.

    2. We put another $250 to student loans. DH completed sexual harassment training Friday and will now be able to get temp assignments at the University. He's still got lot's of full-time applications out, but now that he's in the university employee system, he'll be able to access the internal job postings too.

    3. Snowboarding! I've gone skiing once, but it was on fake snow. I'd love to take a trip out to Colorado in the future sometime to really get the full experience.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
$150 between groceries and a run to Sams Club.

    2. Any progress towards goals?
    Still trying to save away!

    3. What winter sport have you never done but would like to try?
How crazy to say this because there's definitely not a shortage of snow around here... Ski!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Pretty good. We only spent $ yesterday and it was for groceries and gas prepping for the snowstorm. I think we spent about $100 total.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

Nothing new. Just saving what we can and chugging along. We did confirm that MIL will help babysit when we have to go back to work in the fall so we will only be paying for 3 days of daycare a week for the time being. I hope that works out in the long run!

    3. What winter sport have you never done but would like to try?

I've tried snowboarding and I was not a fan. I wish I had tried skiing first and eased into snowboarding. However, I don't particularly like sports OR winter activities so i don't feel like I'm missing much :)

  • 1 - pretty good we got a pizza for free on friday night and saw the american sniper movie on saturday which we also got for free.  Otherwise it was a little bit here and there - buying a few groceries at walmart, getting my car interior detailed, buying some smoke bombs for the moles we have.

    2 - $50 to e fund and $50 to retirement

3 - I'm not a sport person unless you count snowball fights as a winter sport :)

  • 1. We spent cash for everything this weekend.  Will be putting a down payment for preschool next year where we currently have DS.  MIL wanted us to put him into the full day preschool where he will be going to kindergarten.  The cost is roughly $4000 for the year versus $125 a month for the one that we currently have him in.

    2. Had my $290 payments two my credit card hit.  If I can stick to my repayment plan, the credit card will be paid off in 2 months.  Then I will start to save for a new computer.  Mine has been starting to act up on me a little and there are games that I own that I can't play on my current computer.

    3. I really need to get clothes to layer for me so that I can enjoy the winter weather especially sledding.  My dad's folk's hill was the most awesome to sled down.  It is still in the family, but owned by cousins and 6 hours away.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

All budgeted.  Spent $200 on remodeling stuff, but this should be it until we decide on trim.

    2. Any progress towards goals?

I honestly haven't even balanced our checkbook since the 10th.  I know we're sitting well with over $1k to put into savings to apply toward debt, but I haven't even reconciled anything yet to know exactly where we stand.
We also cash flowed a good sized medical bill this month too.  Which brought us to our deductible before baby is even born.  So now we just have the 20% coinsurance.  Which we pretty much know we will meet our max OOP, but we may end up being able to cash flow that also over the next couple of months.

    3. What winter sport have you never done but would like to try?

    Skiing.
