WIAR: The Girl with All the Gifts (Sp)

ok...................

get ready.................

I never do this.....................

but.............................

I am only on Chapter 10 (which I have STRUGGLED to get to)....................

Does it get better?

Holy hell.  The entire time I am reading I keep thinking @Julie37619 and @Booneybear liked this???  I even checked to make sure I was reading the right book!

I know I am not far enough into it.  But it is hard to get into it when I struggle to get through like 5 pages a night.  I just got through where Justineau ran into the Jerky guy (after she touched Melanie and all) and she realizes he did "something". She is running back to the classroom block.
If that made any sense.

  • You are not alone, my friend.

I'm on ch 28 and I'm still struggling.  I'm intrigued by Melanie, but not enough to make me read more than one chapter a night.

  • I really enjoyed the beginning and the ending. The middle kind of dragged for me.

  • I LOVED everything about this book.
  • I am about 33% through it. I had to double check to make sure I didn't download the wrong book, because I could not imagine this being the book y'all were talking about. I do love me a good sci-fi/dystopian, but it so far, I'm not getting some of the "if you only read one book a year, read this one" reviews I'm seeing.

All that being said, I'm enjoying it well enough, I'm just not blown away. Yet. I do have 2/3 of the book to go. ;)

I loved the beginning the most. It had a kind of Margaret Atwood feel to me, but though there were moments I liked throughout, I thought it went downhill from the beginning.

  • I have no words.  I was totally engrossed from the beginning and didn't want to put it down at all.

  • I will say.....

I JUST finished reading the Maze Runner Trilogy.  To me, it is too similar and not exciting me like MR did.  The whole "these kids are special, let's find out why"... thing.

Maybe the timing was wrong for me to read this.

That's so weird - I read The Maze Runner and HATED it.  I thought it was super boring.

Snort- clearly we have opposite opinions on these books.  I didn't LOVE, LOVE, LOVE MR but it did entertain me.
I am not giving up on Girl yet!!

  • I'm on chapter 32. I also liked the beginning but am kind of bored and nearly skimming through some sections. Not connecting to any characters, it just plodding along, with some small points of action. I keep hoping that something will push me back into must-read phase but now I just keep reading so I can be finished and move on to something else.

It's not that I don't like it, I'm just not finding it outstandingly compelling.

  • I'm listening to the audio.  I think I'm on Chapter 26 and not really into it.  I had no idea what this was about when I downloaded it and I think if I would have read the summary or known a little more about it I would have passed on it.
