TAX ? About stocks sold

I really need to do my taxes soon, but I sold stock last year at a profit.  I am seeing that they may have until February 15th to get a 1099 out to me?  Is this correct?   Can you still do your taxes if you don't have the form, but you know what you bought and sold them at?

Any info would be good.  Thanks!

Re: TAX ? About stocks sold

  • I don't know if any of us are accountants...

Wait until you get the form.  Call your financial institution if you have questions about when they will be available, and also check your account online.  Most of our banks had the info available online a week or two before we got the paper statement.

  • So I just got one of the 1099's in the mail I was waiting on and there is no mention of my stock sale or gain.  I will call them to find out.  very confusing.  I sold it in September.
  • FWIW, I also sold stock this year and didn't get a hard copy statement yet but can print them online. Check your form to see if you can set up an account. Mine wasn't with a big broker but it was doable.
  • I don't file without the form. The form should be out by now. You're looking for a 1099B
  • Nevermind. If the account is a brokerage account, they will be out mid-February. Mutual accounts are out now. I still wouldn't file without it because if the form is wrong, you will have to get it amended since the IRS will have incorrect information.
