WWMMD - car repair related

I'm so pissed right now.  I noticed an oil leak in my car and we took it in to a reputable place.  Come to find out whoever replaced my timing belt 2 years ago forgot to put a bolt back on and it caused an oil leak which caused other issue.  I now have to go thru the receipts from 2 years ago to find my documentation from the repair shop that did it.  I will have DH handle it but I feel like they should fix that part of the problem for free and then I can have our current repair shop fix the other problems that were caused from this fuck up. GRRRRR - otherwise it will cost us $1600 - do you guys think that's reasonable?

I do think it's reasonable, but whether they'll fight you on it really depends on the shop. With H's last car, we had a radiator replacement messed up by a shop we have a family connection to. They fixed it, messed up again, and then fixed it again. It might be a little tougher if you're a customer from long ago and haven't been back.

Good luck! Sorry if my bad car karma was contagious.

luckily DH has had his car there within the last year so it's not like we are customers from a very long time ago and my car hasn't had major problems since the timing belt change. I know DH - he will fight for it because he rarely takes no for an answer.  We don't want to put $1600 on it if it wasn't our fault. God that would crush our savings account even more :(

  • I just found all my receipts and I'm even more mad now because they did both - timing belt and oil pump replacement which is what are screwed up now.  So their work didn't even last because of that person not putting the bolt back on.

  • What is totally wrong is the oil pump replacement they did 2 years ago and everything has failed since then. Front crank seal, oil pressure sender, valve cover and the missing bolt caused all this and for the oil pump gasket to fail.  I have a major headache now.

For us to get everything fixed will cost $1400 at our new place and we would negotiate with them to hopefully get it down to 1k.

Our plan is to take it to the original place on tues (already made appt) so they can look at it and go from there.  I told them I have the receipts so I will need to bring those with me.  The lady who answered the phone was a real bitch as I told her the story. It's been 2 years and 25,000 miles since the repair and she was arguing with me that 25k miles is a LOT of miles and anything could happen so I started to argue with her that I'm a SAHM and rarely F-ing drive.  She also told me they only have a 1 year warranty.  So we have to be prepared to pay for everything at our new place and if this old place does to the work for free then I will still take it to the new place and have them double check the work.
