Turbo Tax and State Filing?

We did taxes and filed them yesterday via Turbo Tax. Federal is fine. But DH got a notification today from Turbo Tax that some states' Turbo Tax filings are being watched for hacks, including ours of Minnesota. Any body know anything about this???

Re: Turbo Tax and State Filing?

  • Just saw something on the news about this.  They are saying that turbo tax has not been hacked.

  • They apparently turned off state e-filing because people were using previously stolen info to file false tax returns for the refund. State systems are more vulnerable to this than federal. The story said if you already filed you are fine, it might just take a few more days.
  • So is it safe to file taxes with Turbo Tax? Or should I wait? My FI and I planned on doing taxes this weekend but now...we're in Georgia so I don't know how safe it is to use Turbo Tax.

  • We filled with Turbo Tax a week ago today and have already received both our state and federal refunds. If you're concerned, H & R Block online is just as good and easy to use of a program.

It is safe to file with TurboTax-the problem wasn't with the software, it was with people using stolen SSNs to use the software.

  • I would print the state tax forms and mail them.  Use Tubo Tax to fill them out.
  • As others have said, what happened is that people had the information needed to file false State tax returns for people using Turbo Tax.  Turbo Tax was not hacked or anything like that.
  • I live in Ohio and they are trying to cut back on fraudulant returns. In Ohio we are able to go directly to the states website & e-file for free. We just have to re-enter our W-2 info & for free, I'll do that work. Anyways, what Ohio is doing is they are sending out a letter that you have to go online & take a quiz to verify your ID. Both my husband and I had to do this, and the quiz was bascially the similar types of questions you would get when you have to verify your info to order a credit report. So it was easy stuff to answer. They are doing this to residents, no matter how you file, e-file directly through them or through a service like H&R Block or Turbo Tax or even sending them in via mail.
