Re: QOTD 2/23

  • I, thankfully, have not.

H had to call a few years ago when he hit a deer. Luckily, he was ok...the deer not so much. The car was ok, after some repairs.

  • For the accident I was in when the guy ran the redlight and I t-boned him.

The only time I know of H calling 911 was when the people above us were fighting and it seemed like things were getting rough and out of hand (and it was 3am).  I'll have to ask him if there's any other times, I'm sure there are.

  • Yup, a couple of times. Once for my grandfather who passed out during our Christmas get together. A few times for my mom, she is a diabetic. And once for a car accident I witnessed.

  • Yes, lots of times.  I was a lifeguard for 6 summers--that accounted for most of them.  Then in law school a guy tried to break into my apartment, then a few months ago there was a domestic disturbance outside our apartment.

  • I have called once for a car that slid into the median during a snow storm.

DH called twice.  Once when a tree branch hit his boss in the head and cut his face.  The other time his boss pretty much passed out in the woods from heat exhaustion.  The second time the paramedics were all excited because they got the use their brand new four wheelers to get to the scene.

  • Yes I called on Saturday. My dad rolled his snow mobile without a helmet on. He got up from the accident and my brother helped him into the house. I called 911 while everyone was helping him. He went into shock but luckily only broke one rib. It's a miracle but was super terrifying. I yelled at the 911 operator to just get the f-ing ambulance there and stop asking so many questions. I was pretty panicked.
  • oh my gosh @goatlady12, I'm so glad he is ok!!

  • Oh my goodness @goatlady12!  I'm glad he's ok!  That sounds super scary.

I've had to call on several occasions, unfortunately.

Once for my dad.  He had surgery for a deviated septum and he just started gushing blood from his nose the night after surgery.  It was like a scene out of a horror movie - there was blood everywhere.  It actually happened twice, so had to call both times.

Another time, we witnessed a car accident.  A girl was ejected from her windshield (she wasn't wearing her seat belt) and died instantly.

Another time I had to call because someone tried to break into my apartment when I lived with a friend I used to have.

I've also had to call for a couple of car accidents I've been in.

  • I've responded to many a 911 call.

I've never called 911. Tom did in our car accident where my car was totaled. Otherwise, no. Most accidents I've been in with others weren't 911 worthy, we just called the police department directly.

  • that;s scary goatlady!  I called 911 this past fall when I had a bad reaction to being stung by a wasp for the first time. I was fine until about 40 minutes after the sting, then my throat started closing so I called since I was home alone.  DH has never called 911.

  • I don't know if H has. I've only had to because I didn't have a non emergency number and it was during the age before cell phones had internet access (tree fell over in road in front of my parents' car)

@goatlady12 , I'm so glad your dad is okay!!

H has had to twice for wrecks he was involved in (neither his fault). I had to for one where we were rear ended. I've also called to report a Jeep I saw actively catching fire.

ETA: Growing up, my phone number started as 941-1 and I missed the 4 when I was about 8 and a family friends house trying to call mom....I hung up quickly, not knowing they called right back....
