After an emergency csection with my oldest son I was nervous and apprehensive to have a second one. In the weeks leading up I was sick and scared. In the end everything is perfect. Here's how it went.
We arrived at the hospital at 6:30 in the morning the nurse was wonderful I she started my IV and talk to me about my health. Once she was done we waited only a few minutes and then the anesthesiologist came and talk to me. She explained the difference between a spinal block in an epidural. She seem like she preferred spinal block. Five more minutes and we were walking back to the operating room we started at 9:28. When I walked in there was a team of professionals and they had everything ready to go. 2 anesthesiologists, 2 baby care nurses, 1 doctor to help with assisting my doctor, my nurse and a nursing student. I sat on the edge of the operating table to get the spinal block. The first memory I had racing back was that the operating table was freezing with oldest DS and this one was nice and warm. One of the scariest memories is that I was shivering so bad I couldn't focus on anything else but shakes. With the table be warm I immediately felt more comfortable. They got the spinal started which again I was nervous about, but it didn't even hurt. 10 seconds later they had my feet up and laying down and I was already starting to go numb. Everyone was just talking carrying on it was a very pleasant atmosphere. I distinctly remember my doctor talking about seeing pitbull the night before. I don't see my doctor has the pitbull type. I laid there next to my husband and looked up at the ceiling of this pretty picture of trees. They went ahead and started next thing he knew my son was born, tears were running down my face when I heard the sound of his cry for the first time. My dr held him up over the paper... All I could think was his face is so tiny. My umbilical cord was in my placenta was taken. There was a real not in my cord so if this had not been a scheduled C-section it would have ended up in C-section anyway. That eased my mind because I was so scared I was making a bad decision to have a scheduled c-section. My husband left me to get all stitched up and went with my son. I went into the recovery room at 10:50 where baby and husband were waiting. It was about a hour and 20 minutes surgery. The baby weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz. 19 inches long. He had a nine on his Apgar score. After the recovery room they put me in my more permanent room where I would recover for three more days. I enjoyed having visitors as it took my mind off of the pain. This was one of the happiest days of my life and I'm so happy to share with the people I love. The second day was the worst, I had shoulder pain that was excruciating. The doctor said the pain was gas that was trapped in my body from the surgery or amniotic fluid that slipped under my rib cage. Waiting for it to reabsorbed into my body was terrible. My pain level was about a nine. The pain medicine wasn't even working, The next night they finally gave me a different medicine which finally relieved the pain. The baby is absolutely perfect he is so sweet and hardly cries. We could just sit here and stare at them all day. On day two home I'm still moving very slow. I know every day will get better. I had my tubes tied as well so it might be a longer recovery. Either way it was a great experience and I want to change it for the world. I was hard on myself because I thought that by not having a vbac made me somehow less of a woman. But my experience was actually the best birth I've had, emergency C-section just terrible, and vaginal which was okay but very sensitive healing because of tares and stitches.
Told you that was long. Hope I didn't forget anything as I am still taking pain pills.
