Monday Accountability

1. How MM was your weekend?

2. Any progress towards your goals?

3. Dessert or apps?

Re: Monday Accountability

  • 1. Good. $80 night out (budgeted), $60 pills and a vet visit for the dog (but we diagnosed the problem), $15 gas.

    2. Will make a big car payment tomorrow. Redid budget to make it more realistic.

    3. I'm an appetizer girl! Dessert I can take or leave.
  • 1. $16 for 2 car-washes. We needed it badly! $20 Gas

    2. $578 to house account. $276 tax refund- will go to house account as well

    3. I hardly ever eat apps, but they are my favorite even though I love dessert as well.

  • 1. On budget for everything - gas for H, $10 on groceries, I spent some blow money at the dollar store on picture frames.

    2. We got the cash out of H's whole life policy and put that $3337 towards student loans. H got the formal job offer and starts next monday.

    3. Apps for sure. There's a local restaurant that serves 'chokes 'n cheese and it is soooo good.
  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
SPENDY! but between my raise and our tax return it will not be a problem.
Friday- Dog had her 90 minute holistic consult...at the only holistic veterinary practice in a 50+ mile radius.  we walked away having learned a lot and with a new plan that will hopefully allow us to avoid the vet in the future...$225 once we paid for the visit and supplements.
Part of our new plan for dog will involve cooking her food ourselves...which is going to mean bulk-buying supplies when we find them, so we found an upright freezer on clearance at home depot $277...hopefully this will pay for itself in savings on monthly groceries.
Seeds for my garden (will result in savings later) $90...(I'm planting a 400 sqft garden and will grow; arugula, bok choy, lettuce, spinach, kale, siwss chard, burssels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, celery, corn, 3 kinds of squash, watermelon, pumpkin, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, 3 kinds of beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, onions, shallots, endive, beets, radish, and I'm sure I'm leaving a few out!)
    Saturday- $0
    Sunday- BJ's $181, grocery store- $25

    2. Any progress towards your goals?
Tax return!! more than expected, mainly due to my tuition from the first half of last year and increased giving to the charatable organizations we support. My promotion, raise, and back pay to January 1 finally got official approval...counting down to April 1st!

    3. Dessert or apps?
I've cut most sugar out of my diet and now find desserts too sweet...bring on the savory apps!

    1. Good. We used some of our tax return to get husband a new set of tires and wheels. We were under budget on groceries by $80 on Friday. We budgeted and took cash out for Saturday meeting up with friends and a concert and didn't spend as much as we planned. We were able to use some of it for gas on the way home. We will probably use the rest for husband's gas. We didn't do anything Sunday so no money spent!

    2. My husband got a bigger bonus than we were expecting him to get, so we were able to put that in our savings account. We had $300 left over from tax returns after getting the tires, put that along with an extra $100 in savings account.

    3. Appetizers!

    1. I'm not sure. We had a lot of little purchases throughout the weekend, from $35 in groceries to $7 for H to wash his car, etc. that we haven't yet tallied up. I did get a haircut this weekend, and have decided to start coloring my hair at home, saving us $75 or so every six weeks.

We're also going to start TTC in May and I have over $700 left in my FSA account, so I spent close to $250 on ovulation and pregnancy tests, prenatal vitamins, and a really nice thermometer (not for BBT) but figured if for some reason we don't have a baby, we'll still need it eventually. Hopefully we'll be able to spend the rest on a fancy Madela pump in June or July...

    2. Good! Payment on my student loan put it at $4,700. We are so close - and on track to having it paid off mid-May.

    3. Definitely appetizers.

    1) Ours wasn't too spendy.  We went to my hometown for an engagement party for my BFF.  Spent about $50 on gas for that.  Also spent about $20 on fast food en route (I know, I know - we can't help ourselves when it's a road trip).  Yesterday we had a large-ish grocery run and spent $125.  We also spent $17 on fire ant killer.  They are starting to take over our back yard again.  It's one of those joys of living in the south.

    2) Finished funding our 2014 Roths.  We left it a bit late this year since we bought the house back in August and drained all but our e-fund for the downpayment/closing costs/start up expenses.  Unfortunately, our 2015 Roths have to be done before the end of the year because we have to do a conversion for the first time, and conversions have to happen by Dec. 31 for them to count.  From a budget standpoint that means we're basically funding Roths twice in 2015.  We have prepared for it, but it sure does seem like a lot to do in a single calendar year.  The first round is complete though, and that feels like an accomplishment!  2016 will be much easier.

    3) What is all of this appetizer nonsense?  Desserts all the way.  I have a huge sweet tooth.

  • 1 - ours was good.  we went out to eat on friday night and spent $30.  Saturday was a busy day - DD had ballet class, then we had to go check on DH's lot because someone was fixing the brick wall behind it, had lunch out ($28), went to walmart for a few things including a bday gift for DD ($50) and lowes to get paint samples (we are going to start painting DDs bathroom next weekend).  Sunday we stayed home to catch up on a few things like taking down the xmas light :)

    2 - $155 to savings and $155 to retirement

    3 - Desert FTW !  I have a major sweet tooth

Pretty good. Groceries $100, randoms $60, baseball items for DS $40. Dinner out $20.

    2. Any progress towards your goals?
    No changes.

    3. Dessert or apps?
That's a hard one! Depends on the options. One restaurant has amazing deep fried green beans. Another has amazing deep fried oreos. Normally we skip both but we splurge every so often.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
It was pretty good. Saturday: Lunch w/a friend and brought home a wrap for H ($13), BJs for some supplies ($40). Sunday: Gas ($25)

    2. Any progress towards your goals?
We finished our taxes but we ended up owing a little over $200 :(

    3. Dessert or apps?
I'm usually too cheap for either but I guess apps since I'm never hungry enough for dessert afterwards!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Not the best but I got some necessities. $40 for date night, $50 at target for various things including my niece's first Easter basket, and $50 for a pair of snow boots. I know it's late in the season for these but I'm so tired of my feet getting soaked when I shovel.

    2. Any progress towards your goals? Regular car payment went in and not MM we got the tile backsplace up in our kitchen! After 1 1/2 years our kitchen is almost completely updated!

    3. Dessert or apps? That's a tough one.. If the dessert is anything apple cinnamon I'm going dessert, but if they don't have that then I'll go apps.

Dang! Sorry to hear that!! What a bummer. I hope mine takes them. I bought online and can't 'submit' the recipt until they're shipped... We would have bought them either way (I had been waiting for a week when they wouldn't freeze sitting on my porch waiting for us to get home from work!) using this money would be a big bonus though!!

    2. Any progress towards your goals? $500 to general savings, waiting on tax returns to go to vacation savings account.. not much new.
    3. Dessert or apps? Both- DH and I like to split 2-3 apps and a dessert (no entree) when we go to certain restaurants.... not feel too full and get something sweet at the end.

Agreed, I would have bought them either way, but now I'm scrounging for any co-pay receipts I forgot to submit last year to withdraw the rest of my 2014 FSA before the end of the month.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?
Eh. It was okay. Most of it was budgeted, others were spring of the moment purchases.

Friday: $60 on a lunch date with DH, $6 coffee, $36 easter clothes for the girls, and $23 on craft supplies
Saturday: $63 on groceries, $27 on clothes for me, $28 for home supplies, $155 on pictures of the girls.
    Sunday: $0

    2. Any progress towards your goals?

Other than paying off what was earmarked, nothing new.

    3. Dessert or apps?
It depends on the restaurant and the occasion. I usually go for appetizers, but there is this one place we go to every Easter that I eat their Chocolate mousse no matter how full i am.

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?  Not too bad, spent an extra $40 on breakfast and supper on Sunday.

    2. Any progress towards your goals?  My payment to my credit card went in on the weekend.  $400 and it is paid off (except for our YMCA membership that is month).

    3. Dessert or apps?  I usually do apps along with MW.  We tend to get the pick 2 that most places where we go have.

  • 1.  How MM was your weekend?  It was okay.  $230 for groceries which was $30 over budget, but included some things like spices that will last a long time.  We stayed home watching TV (free!) and eating leftovers (free!).

    2. Any progress towards your goals?  Finalized our ideas for our front porch so we can start calling contractors to get some quotes.  I also shopped around for hotels for the trip we're going on in June and was able to find some cheaper hotels than what I originally booked, so I shaved about $150 off of our trip expenses so far.

    3. Dessert or apps? Dessert all the way!  I have a huge sweet tooth.
  • 1.  How MM was your weekend?  It was ok, all budgeted at least.  I got my hair done which is $122, but that is budgeted and my blow money for the month so I am ok with it.  $110 on groceries, and H spent $6 to get snacks for a poker night.

    2.  Any progress toward your goals?  Not this week - next week we'll pay down some more debt.

    3.  Dessert or apps?  Oh I could live off of apps.  I am getting hungry just thinking about it!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend? Not too bad.  Friday - $0, Saturday - $10 breakfast, $40 dinner, $150 BJs run (diapers, shampoos, freezer stuff etc) and $100 on Groceries.  Sunday - $0.

    2. Any progress towards your goals?  Signed paperwork for life ins, and opened 2 mutual funds.  One is to hopefully help with the kids' college, and the other is H's fund.  He wanted a riskier one to save for a new truck or something.  I'm not quite sure, I'm just happy he's saving.

    3. Dessert or apps?  Usually apps, but I'm telling you BFing has given me the biggest sweet tooth!  I want all the desserts!

Great. Spent $50 on groceries and that was it.

    2. Any progress towards your goals?
Put another $1,400 aside to go toward debt.
However, received medical bills for the birth of our daughter and insurance told me a lot of lies about how my coverage works. So far were paying $600 more than they told me we would be responsible for. I see this ending mesy.

    3. Dessert or apps?
    Both? With wine?
Although, give me some good apps and a bottle of wine, and I'm a happy gal.
