Fashion for Kids??

So I was poking around on Pinterest instead of working. No surprise there. I came across some pics of very fashionable little kids. I didn't know this was a thing.  I really don't know how to feel about this.  On one hand, I think they look cute, but part of me is a little weirded out by it.  Some of them are dressed like tiny adults. Have you seen this?  How do you feel about it?  Maybe I just feel weird about it because they are dressed way better than I am.

  • I've seen it a bit.  I don't think I really have an opinion either way.  As long as they aren't inappropriate, I'm not sure I mind.

  • I've never really seen it but I would never dress my kids that way...even if I had the money. DS can't seem to keep his pants in one piece for long. He always gets holes in the knees. They constantly get dirt on them and spill things. It would drive me crazy to spend so much money and have the clothes get ruined.

  • If I had spawn, their wardrobes would challenge my own.  That god I don't have a daughter because between buying her clothes and shoes and buying my own clothes and shoes, I would have to start whoring myself out to pay the credit card bills.

Ditto. I think they look cute, but I just can't imagine spending the time to pick out their outfits, especially since they will likely get messed up and only fit for a season.

  • I think they look cute and maybe I would dress my kids like that if I had the money.  For me personally, I couldn't justify the cost.  Several times I've bought expensive dress clothes for my kids that they literally wore one time and then out grew.  Once my kid went out in a brand new pair of pants and skidded across the blacktop at school on his knees ripping a big hole in his pants.  It was the first and last time those were ever worn.  I gotta be honest, I'd rather put the extra money into my own wardrobe.  I'm sure this will all change once they are teenagers and really start to care about their personal appearance.  They are already starting to make that change.

  • My kids wear jeans and teeshirts everyday. I want them to never feel uncomfortable or for clothes to hinder their playing. If clothes can be fashionable but you're not making them sit like sweet little statues so they don't get messy and their movement is unrestricted, I don't see anything wrong with it.

I had to look it up but in the stuff I saw, I have no issue. If those kids will actually put the clothes on, then cool. It looks like the usual kind of things kids should be wearing- shorts, loose blouses, skinny pants- just more tailored, less jazzy prints and gender-biased colors. We own some things that would probably be considered "kids fashion" because my sister gets employee discounts from Janie and Jack and has bought lots of their wardrobe. However, if it's not a dress, it has a button or zipper fly of any kind, or pleats, my four year old isn't wearing it. She lives in princess nighties, worn out leggings and $2 t-shirts. I keep hoping my 1.5 year old will wear all the stuff the older one refuses!
  • I will admit to buying my niece three of the same faux fur coats when she was a baby in three sizes (6-9 mo.; 12 mo; & 18 mo) so she would have one even when she out grew one.   It's what I do.

What Jackie said. I dress my boys for comfort and freedom of movement too. I like their clothes to match, but my husband does not share this concern (like at all). If these kids like their fancy clothes though and can play in them, that's cool with me.

Bah! DH is the same way. If it was up to DH, my son would be dressed like the kid from Big Daddy every day.

  • My son has started dressing himself. I just let him know the weather so he can dress appropriately. He comes up with some interesting combos. I just have to try and let it go...unless he tries to wear the same clothes for 3 days in a row. I draw the line there!
