NMMR: Need Cleaning Ideas on 2 Things...

1. I had two stools at our kitchen island. They are now gone. The reason we got rid of them was due to the smudges the rubber feet tips were leaving on our light colored hardwood flooring. I've tried various cleaning solutions and also the eraser pads and I cannot get rid of them. The smudges, AKA rubber scuff marks, aren't on the surface but have somehow "stained" the wood. Any ideas for a cleaning idea that would get into the grain of the wood without harming it? Yes, it's a sealed floor.

2. We have a white ceramic kitchen sink - pretty standard. My Soft N Scrub with bleach does an amazing job of getting rid of food stains and basic goo and gunk, but I cannot get the grey scratches off from the pots and pans that have slid across the ceramic surface and left marks. In addition to my Soft N Scrub, I've tried Bartender's Keeper, Baking soda, baking soda with Windex, and a variety of other cleaners including the eraser pads. Nothing is removing these scratches! It drives me crazy.

Now it's spring and I have major spring cleaning fever!!! Help.

  • I can't help you on the wood floors, but I know about ceramic sinks.  we have one and it would drive me nuts that I couldn't get the scuff marks out.  Try clorox foaming spray with bleach.  The foaming stuff works SO much better.  I was using soft scrub foaming spray with bleach but they stopped making it - that was the best.  Clorox works but not as good as the soft scrub spray.

  • For the sink, try Ajax or Comet. The powder stuff that turn into a chalk when wet.

  • You may be out of luck for the wood floors.  Certain rubber pads do stain wood.

    Could they be refinished?

  • Not sure about the floors. Comet is amazing for sinks! I hate those marks but comet does the trick!

  • For the sink make a paste with oxi clean by adding just a little bit of water to it until it gets to a thick. Then coat the sink (or just the area with the scratches) and leave it overnight & then rinsh. I did this with grout and it turned my dingy grout to sparkling white again & no stinky smell either.

  • Thanks all! I will try these suggestions. Yeah, I think the floor is a lost cause.
  • I get the scuffs off my sink with a magic eraser.
