Staying focused on goals.

A friend recently listed their home, the next day they had two showings, with two offers, one for full asking price. Boom. Sold in a day. The following week they bought a house.

I'm happy for them. It doesn't happen like that for everyone. However it makes me so impatient. H and I have been casually house hunting for over a year. We haven't met our goals, therefore not ready to sell our current home and buy quite yet. I guess that's motivation to keep at it!

  • everyone's situation is different.  I try and not compare us to other people.  Just keep on  plugging away.  That's what I tell myself anyways :)

  • Yep, stay motivated.

A lady I work with just had a similar thing happen.  13 showings the first day, 3 offers.  They managed to get more than asking price, and they were able to delay closing until the end of May so they don't have to move while their kids were in school.

It's pretty remarkable, especially because this is basically a million dollar home.  They had a huge number of people come look given the price point.

I'm very happy for her, and I'm hoping we get to experience a similar thing when it's our turn.

  • Wow, good for her!

We just listed our condo last Monday and have only had 2 showings....nothing else yet. We have an open house on Sunday...hoping for something good to happen soon...I just have a feeling it's going to take a while in this crappy market. But the way I look at it is if it takes a little longer, we'll  be saving up even more $ towards a house DP.

  • one of our neighbors down the street just listed their house and they have started the process of building their own house in a different neighborhood.  Hopefully they get it sold within 2 months because if not they will have to stop the building process.  I can't handle that kind of stress.

If we ever move in the future  I would actually love to go a step up from where we are now - same amount of rooms just bigger square footage with hardwood floors, finished basement, neighborhood pool.  I have a whole list of wants :)  Since our house is paid off we would use all that cash for a new house and could probably afford more with a small mortgage.

That scenario stresses me out! Building while trying to sell.... Lol

  • Like vlagrl, we stay motivated by focusing on OUR goals and not letting what other people do, bother us. We're doing Dave Ramsey's TMM and it means we live a very strict and frugal lifestyle. We don't buy anything we don't absolutely need, and every extra penny gets put toward debt.
What keeps me motivated is daydreaming about being debt free. Whenever I'm not feeling so into it or like I want to cave, I think about how different our life will be when we have no payments and are financially secure.

  • I have been struggling with envy lately. My sister just got a new car and it is lovely. H and I agreed we wouldn't be seriously car shopping until we get a BFP or this car dies on us. Despite the rational thinking my irrational side wants a pretty new car now!

I just try and stay focused by reviewing our baby bucket list, budget, and savings goals. I also work hard in my classes and H and I try to watch netflix together to keep ourselves distracted from temptation.
