Tell me something good!

H and I are feeling incredibly deflated. We are coming up on our two year MM mark and the school is closed for the month of March so our goals have taken a hard hit. We have so much to look forward to, a summer off together, TTC in May, I have lost 6lbs in 2 months, my classes are going well, and H just got his course proposal for Creative Writing approved so he will have an amazing 2015-16 school year. We are just having a head time looking past the next 20 days right now.

Cheer me up! Tell me something good in your life. MM or not. Something you are looking forward to? A goal you are on your way to completing? Anything! I love reading the goal progress section on the Accountability posts but I can't wait till Monday to hear some good news.

Sounds like you have a lot to celebrate!! We're looking forward to having my student loan paid off in May, as well as taking a completely paid for vacation to Paris, Norway and London. Once we get back, we're going to remodel our bathroom paid for in cash, start TTC and begin paying off H's student loan, which we hope to have gone in 16-20 months. Life is good!!

I was 27 years old as well when I paid off the house.  Congrats on being debt free!

  • I'm looking forward to going to St. Lucia at the end of next month.  Although I'm pretty sure I will cry because we can't take DD with us and won't be with her for 7 days.

I also am looking forward to planting flowers in all of our pots come next month.  I hope to get all the planting done before we leave town so I don't have to worry about it when we get back.

All this talk makes me really want to take advantage of the gardening plots the school has for faculty members. I just want to grow a bunch of flowers!

We have tons to celebrate! Life just feels like it comes to a halt when we are both out of work for a month. Haha.

That sounds like an incredible vacation! I hope you have fun!

  • Can i join you in being deflated about March instead? Our income is scary low this month. Between me being on maternity leave, extra healthcare premiums, and Dependant care deductions starting, we won't make it through the month Without borrowing from savings. Oh and we have a 1500 tax bill to pay in a few weeks.

Something good. My hospital bill came and its only 677 so my FSA will fully cover it. The babies bills however have my head spinning.

I won't complain about my March after reading this.

Hopefully you will find a way to replenish the savings account! Just try and get through the month and hopefully you will have a better April!

Like BRIJ I had a death in the family in 2007 and the life insurance was exactly the amount with a few dollars difference of what was left on the mortgage.  I couldn't afford the mortgage payment without my first H's help so I decided to pay it off.  Even though it's paid off we still have to pay home owners insurance and property taxes out of our own pockets.  I set money aside twice a month for that.  It's really the only way DH can afford to build a photog studio because we don't have a mortgage.

  • alyssa - if you have an entire month off enjoy it because you will soon be busy again.  Find things to do to enjoy the weather and time off with your DH now while there are only 2.5 weeks left. Sometimes you just need to not worry about money goals

Oh I remember those times.  We weren't in the best financial shape when DD came into our lives but I wouldn't change it for a thing.  We will be much better off when we TTC at the end of this year. Although I'm thinking of waiting to TTC until after the holidays are over because I don't want to be puking my guts out when I could be enjoying time off.  Assuming I will have the same horrid pregnancy symptoms.  What sucks is that if I do have the same icky symptoms I will have to cut back on my work.  Praying for a better pregnancy next time.  I deserve it!

We are having a two day snow storm right now. The weather is not on my side today but we are supposed to reach and stay in the 40's next weekend! I can't wait for the snow to melt. It is a great time with the students!

  • We just signed paper work to get siding and a new roof.  Siding is only going to cost about 2k more than painting.

We are also having nice wet weather, no snow though.
  • H and I each got our bonuses with yesterday's paycheck, yippee!!  We went to dinner to celebrate, and the rest is going towards our front porch.

Speaking of which, we are looking forward to hearing back from the contractor we had come look at it to give us a bid.  I'm so eager to get started so we know what the bill is going to be!

We're also looking forward to a road trip in June but that seems way too far away.  I'm just happy that it is in the 60's today!  Last week it was in the 20's and snowing.

    That must be exciting!

I am really looking forward to doing some home improvements this summer. We are waiting for official word about our housing before we start. I would hate to do any work and have the school move us to another building.

  • I had a whole kerfuffle with Massage Envy and after much perseverance, I was able to end the contract. I signed up right after getting engaged, so I felt really bad bringing that useless bill into the married budget for six months longer than we expected because of ME's error. But now it's gone! I love a good customer service win!

Husband starts his new job on Monday and we're both really excited. Job searching can be very exhausting, even when it's your partner doing the searching!

Also in the mid-60s here and LOVING it. So excited that the snow is gone. I hope the rest of you get that joy soon!
  • Our back room remodel is complete.  We moved a wall so now we have a dining room and family room, and there is new recessed lighting through that space and the rest of the house.  We also had hardwoods installed in the back, so the house has hardwood throughout (except bathrooms and laundry, which is tile).

Yesterday my parents came, and they helped us move the furniture back and install the last light fixture over the dining room table.  I am in LOVE with the space - our dining room furniture (a hutch, table, and 6 chairs) finally fits properly, and we have a big space to fill in the family room.  The light fixture we originally chose didn't look right, and it was out of the return window for wayfair.  Still, I called and explained that it looked a bit different from the photo.  The lady on the phone declared it a "defect" and refunded my money but let us keep the light!  So we're going to try to see if we can do something with it when we tackle the kitchen/breakfast nook next year.  And then I found a much better one for about the same price yesterday afternoon, and we had it installed in about 30 minutes after dinner.

It's motivation to keep going with the house!

  • Nice to hear all the good news!

Nothing major for us this month MM or otherwise. But, my dog is finally healthy again and sidewalks are back in my neighborhood after last week's warmth, so life is good!
  • So you get an entire month off and you're upset! Sorry to say it, but I don't feel bad for you. :P

Go for some walks, catch up on time together, read a book, take a nap... enjoy it!

  • We've had 5 condo showings in a matter of 2 weeks being on the market....The market does still suck where we live, but I'm just glad people are showing up....hopefully it will sell soon!

We have our cruise in early May which I'm so excited about!

H has consolidated his days at work to working 40 hours in 3 days! The dog will now only be alone 2 days during the work week since I work from home one day as well!

We are still savings a good amount of $ towards our house DP

  • I'm excited the deck I'm building on the back of my house is coming along nicely :).  One of my first thoughts when I saw the house, before I had even bought it was, "Ooohhh, this house really needs a deck off the back bedroom."  Now that all the "boring" renos are done...new siding/insulation, new windows, new gutters, new kitchen...I can finally start my fun projects.

OP, hang in there during March!  Sounds like things will be going extra well after this month.

It was boring, because I own a duplex, and the new kitchen was for the tenant side...not mine, lol.
