Prayers please

I've been in the hospital since Saturday for bleeding. They said it looked like old blood and called my doctor. I had been spotting since last Thursday and came in to the hospital Tuesday for bleeding but was released when everything looked okay. My doctor wanted me admitted for steroids and magnesium sulfate just in case I continued to bleed. Baby has been looking good, but gives the nurses a hard time by moving around so much. They are constantly coming in to adjust his monitor. We were supposed to be released yesterday, but my doctor wants fetal medicine to check everything out (they don't work weekends). My doctor has warned me that I just "might be a bleeder" who will need to get checked out just to make sure everything is still on track. She said she isn't worried about preterm labor, but of course just being here makes me a little more anxious. This baby needs to wait for June! Anyways, prayers for us is appreciated and thanks for reading this. I'm giving you a cookie!

  • Thanks all. I am back at home. Fetal medicine couldn't find anything wrong which is good, but it still doesn't solve the bleeding issue. Baby is developing appropriately and everything looks good. I started having more bleeding when I was discharged, but luckily it is older blood. I just feel crappy, and hate all of this. Hopefully this passes and I can get back to normal. I follow up with my doctor next Monday.
    @ILoveRedVino I'm 26 weeks. I'll be 27 on Thursday.

    Thanks everyone! I'm feeling better today. My mom came in for a few days which was nice to see her. She left this afternoon. I'm just trying to remain calm. My doctor doesn't seem really worried, so I'm trying to remember that and remember baby boy is not being affected by it.

    @r.wilsonny How were you able to deal with all of it? Did they find a cause to your bleeding or was it unknown?

  • Well, at 20 weeks, the doctors discovered that I had placenta previa, but they were not worried about it at all because they said that it was pretty common, especially for women my age (I had my daughter at 39 and am now 40). They said that since it was still early on, the placenta could move, allowing for a vaginal delivery. If not, then I would have to have a c section. Up until that point, I had no bleeding and actually was feeling pretty good my entire pregnancy (other than the usual tiredness, etc).

    So at 24 weeks, I had gone to visit my parents for the weekend while H was away and when I got home, I went to the bathroom and saw blood (first time ever seeing this so naturally was freaked out). It was kind of late, so I called the doctor and they told me to go to the hospital. Luckily, my H had just gotten home so we went and they admitted me and wound up keeping me for 4 days for observation. It was kind of the same thing they did with you - the baby is still pretty small at that point, with lots of room to move, and my daughter kept doing things like rolling over onto her cord, which caused her heartrate to decel, causing doctors to run in panicking, etc etc....the stupid monitors kept shifting too, so that was another big problem - they kept running in panicking and saying they were going to have to deliver the baby if that kept happening. It was kind of ridiculous and made me start questioning if this was the hospital that I wanted to deliver my baby in. They gave me steroid shots just in case....then finally by the 4th day when they felt things were okay, they sent me home and told me to take it easy.

    Fast forward to my 28 week sonogram - the doctors said the placenta had moved and that everything looked great and that if I were to have the baby then, I could have a vaginal delivery. About 5 days later, I was upstairs folding some shirts to put away - nothing crazy - and all of a sudden trickle, trickle, trickle...I look down and see blood. And it was a lot more blood than the first incident. Ran to the bathroom, and a huge clot of blood came out. Rather than call the doctor, we just went straight to the hospital. I was surprisingly calm on the ride to the hospital because at that point, I figured whatever happens is going to happen and I have no control over it. (yes, I was still scared) They admitted me again - did a quick exam, said the baby was fine, but that I was now to be on bedrest in the hospital for the remainder of the pregnancy because not only did my placenta rupture, but my water had broken. They were hoping the bleeding would stop, they gave me another round of steroids and also some meds to stop the labor (had no idea I was in labor, btw - just felt like I had my period really bad). The bleeding never stopped and it got to the point where it was putting both me and the baby at risk so they delivered her the next day via emergency c section right at 29 weeks. Btw - I initially was having doubts about the hospital, but I have to say that when this happened, they really were amazing through this whole thing. From the delivery to my daughter's stay in the NICU - the hospital I had her in is rated one of the best NICU's in the state of NY.

    Yes, it was scary. I'm not going to lie. The doctors still do not know what caused this to happen - they just said it was bad luck. 9 months later and I still go over and over in my head what did I do to cause this to happen. In the end, my daughter is totally fine and I consider myself very lucky. You would never even know she was born early if you saw her :)

  • ps - I hope that the remainder of your pregnancy is not as eventful as mine was....just really, take it super easy. Make your H or anyone else that can help do all of the household chores or errands. Not that you can't do anything at all, but I would just say stay off your feet as much as possible, no lifting of any kind, really just relax and pamper yourself. Your #1 job is to grow that little human being inside of you and that should be your only responsibility right now. (aside from work, assuming you are working and not SAH).
  • @r.wilsonny Thanks for sharing your story. Glad to hear your daughter is healthy and okay. They had to keep moving the monitors for the heart rate because baby boy kept moving. Luckily they didn't freak out, or I would have lost it! My doctor wants me to change a little bit of my work schedule and not drive as much (I drive all over the county for work). I'm slowing back to work this week and meeting with my doctor on Monday to really lay out what I can and cannot do.

    No problem. Hopefully my story didn't freak you out too much. What happened to me really is a rare thing the doctors said and they do not know what caused it. Although I blame myself for not taking it as easy as I probably should have, the doctors kept telling me that it wasn't my fault and these things just happen sometimes. Is there any way for you to work remotely for for your job? Because that was one of the things I was able to do after my first hospital trip. I came into the office a few days a week, but then worked from home for the rest. In the very least, see if you can reduce the amount of time you are running around in the car....

    Unfortunately, I cannot work remotely. I've been doing half days the last few days, and I think I'll be switched to working in the office once I get a note from my doctor. I feel much better today and am finally feeling more like myself. I'm just trying to relax once I get home.
