Am I getting my period?

Hi ladies! I went off of my BCP Saturday Feb 28th, I got my period 2 days after I stopped it. It's now been 28 days and I'm waiting for my period. I feel like I'm going to get it. I have cravings like you wouldn't believe and some moodiness :) My husband and I aren't quite ready to start trying. I wanted to become regular before we started. Can anyone else share their experience of their first month being off of the pill?

Re: Am I getting my period?

  • You'll know when it comes. Remember that natural cycles are seldom like the 28 day cycles you experience on BC. My natural cycle varies between 28 and 37 days.

  • Mine came back pretty regularly right away, with a 26/27 day cycle. Though heavier than when on the pill, it's been much lighter flow than before. I also never had/have any "symptoms" other than cramps. But my body isn't your body, so you'll just have to wait it out.

  • When I went off it back in 2011/2012, it took a good 6 months for my system to regulate itself. I had been on BCP for 10+ years.

Don't be surprised if it takes 3-6 months to be regular.

  • It can take 6 months to a year to regulate after coming off birth control. You'll know if your period shows up. Most likely, it will be similiar to what it was like before BC. But it could be different.

  • There isn't a "normal" time to regulate after bcp. Like pps said, sometimes it's immediate, sometimes days, weeks, months, or in my case, 6+ years and still no dice. If you go more than 60-90 days, call your OBGYN to get Provera and jumpstart it, then start the wait over.

  • I was off BCP for a year and never had a "regular" cycle (between 21 and 35 days). I had the worst PMS symptoms the first cycle off the pill. again my body isn't yours.

most you can do is take a pregnancy test once a week until AF shows up or you hit 60 days, then you can call your doctor and after they confirm a negative pregnancy test they can give you a round of provora to jump-start things.

  • When I went off BCP, my cycles were relatively regular, in the 27-32-day range starting with month one. But even I had a longer first couple of cycles - closer to the 31-32 day side of things. Give your body a little extra time to figure out what it's doing. Then, as PPs said, see a doctor if you hit 60 days with no period.
