FI and I are applying for an apartment on Saturday. I am uncomfortable with online app
It's the first time I've ever applied online for an apartment. Before, it was always in person with a paper application. But this apartment complex only does applications online. And I was looking at it tonight and noticed they ask for a bank account reference and credit reference. I am uncomfortable putting that info down. I don't mind giving them my paycheck stubs as proof of income. But my bank account number is different. And I know that when I give them a check for the security deposit, my bank account number will be on the bottom. But that's after I've been approved.
The app doesn't indicate that it's required but I worry about leaving it blank and getting automatically denied online. But if I fill it in with the info, can they look up recent statements? We just now got the money to apply. Things have been tight with the wedding and the tax bill but things are finally getting back to normal now. I worry about them looking at our account and thinking we don't have the money when that's actually not the case.
What would you do? Am I just being paranoid?

Re: FI and I are applying for an apartment on Saturday. I am uncomfortable with online app
I participate in a real estate investing (REI) forum and online applications for tenants are becoming more and more common.
In fact, I am planning to use one the next time I am looking for a tenant.
With that said, it wasn't my impression that a bank account number was usually part of the application. Though it very well could be, I haven't looked into it much yet. A Social Security number, yes, because those online applications will do a credit check.
I just had a thought, is this specifically the apartment complex's online application or do they use a third party system?
If it's a third party system, post the name of the website and I will go take a quick check on my REI forum if this is a widely used, reputable company. There are actually only a few websites that do this for rental property owners/businesses.
