Need a Rec

I'm looking for an audiobook to listen to with my mom on an 8 hour car drive (and the drive back).  It shouldn't be a brand new release, because I need it to be available at the library.  My mom is SUPER conservative and SUPER innocent (think 50's era Southern Belle), so it needs to have no on-page sex and a minimum of cursing (a few damns and shits are fine, but nothing veering into eff territory or of a vulgar variety).

Re: Need a Rec

  • Cavendon Hall by Barbara Taylor Bradford (Downton Abbey-ish)
Hattie Ever After & Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson (these are middle grade/ya historical fiction but my mom really enjoyed them too).
    Dollbaby by Laura Lane McNeal

Oy - all historical fiction.  :)

Does she like clean chick-lit?  The Emma Rae creations series by Sandra Bricker is chick lit but Christian so it's clean.

  • Christian is good as is anything similar to Downton Abbey, which is her favorite show.  I'm going to look these up now!

    My favorite Cake Wreck ever.

  • How about Agatha Christie mysteries? My dad sounds very similar (conservative, loves historical fiction and non-fiction), he loves these books. I don't believe there's any sex or swearing. A lot of them including the Hercule Poirot mysteries were turned into a PBS show (possibly two?) Ms. Marple is another AC series on PBS that's available on Netflix, this might give her something new to watch when you get home.
