Ugh. We came home from the Easter weekend. I happened to look up at the kitchen ceiling and there's a wet spot. I climbed up and touched it. Not mushy, but clearly was wet and has now dried a bit.
I went to the kids' bathroom on the floor above the kitchen. It's their sink - or at least the plumbing to their sink. I cleared out the cabinet and UNDER the plastic drawer protector cover I had on the cabinet bottom - there was the water pooled around the copper hot water pipe. I ran the sink and none of the sink's drainage was leaking. Also, neither the hot nor the cold water pipes themselves were leaking. It's almost like the water came UP from the base of the cabinet and at the hole where the pipe passes through the cabinet bottom, that's where the water was.
So, there's evidence of water on the kitchen ceiling AND actual presence of water in the cabinet.
Could this be a burst hot water pipe in the ceiling? Wouldn't that keep pouring out if that's the case? The low's here were probably in the 30's at night while we were gone, but in the 40s and 50s in the day. Oh, I should add that DH totally switched off the heat while we were gone for 4 days and when we came home the house's temperature was reading 50 degrees.
Any ideas?
Re: NMMR: Help Me Diagnose This Plumbing Problem...
No drainage issues prior.
Both DH and I are stumped and of course, he isn't even home (work trip). So, tonight he wants me to keep my eye on the water mark on the ceiling and if it gets bigger (I marked the current edges with pencil) to call a plumber in the morning. Ack.
That's what I'm wondering. I did approach them this morning with the whole, "Mommy isn't mad and I just need you to let me know what happened, you won't get into trouble," but they said they hadn't been playing in the sink???
Anyway, our kitchen ceiling's water spot hasn't gotten any larger. The cabinet is totally dry. I'm going to watch it and see what happens.
