Healthy but Tasty Shakes - Help!

I've tried so many shakes but they're all meh to me.

Are there any healthy shakes that truly taste awesome (like a candy bar lol)? I want to get back into drinking shakes but hate the ones that taste too healthy.

I'm posting this here because the health and fitness board is dead.

Re: Healthy but Tasty Shakes - Help!

  • Have you tired making your own shakes? You can control how healthy they are and tasty by putting food you love in them. This is personally the best way to go IMO because it eliminates a lot of the chemicals and junk that companies put in their shakes.

Put some unsweet almond milk, frozen fruit with no sugar added, spinach, greek yogurt for protein, and some ice then blend it up. You could also try adding flavored (or unflavored) natural whey protein powder to it.

Check out pinterest. There are a ton of smoothie ideas on there, including dessert like smoothies! :)

  • I agree-make your own shakes with kale, spinach, yogurt, frozen fruit, etc. and skip the processed fitness junk. That stuff can be pricy, too! I always experiment but one combo like is spinach, banana, and blueberries. I don't tend to use a milk base.
  • I haven't tried any of the ready made shakes. I either make them myself or go to smoothie places & just get ones that have fruit I like in them. You can go to Vitamix website & they have lots of great receipes to try there. Then once you find a few like, get all the ingredients, cut them up & then put them into a freezer bag & freeze. Then in the mornings when you are in a rush, all you have to do is grab the bag, dump it in your blender & mix.
  • Thanks everyone! I have made my own but they're meh. I used the ingredients listed above. At a loss... Maybe there's a company that makes tasty ones minus junk. That's what I'm hoping to find. Appreciate all the suggestions!!

I get some duds too sometimes. Maybe try following an exact recipe until you find what you're looking for?

I used to like Odwalla and Naked juices in college; now I'm too cheap. Not sure how healthy they are but I bet they're less processed than Herbalide, etc.

Whey protein (vanilla), low fat vanilla yogurt, ice, about 1/4 cup of whatever milk you like, banana and peanut butter.
  • Maybe not 100% healthy but I use spinach, berries. Banana, milk and a scoop of nesquick powder. Dd likes them. Love my nutri bullet

  • I just use fruit, veggies, and water in mine and I love them!

The one I made last night was

2 packed cups of baby spinach

    1 cup kiwi

    1 cup banana

    1/3 cup water.
