I am interested in reading this series. I haven't seen the TV shows at all. A friend of mine said that the show is better than the books. GASP! This is never true. What says NBC?

  • Read the books if you like long, detailed, epic stories.

Watch the show if you can't be bothered with details.

The books will always be better (and there will be a ton of things that will differ from the show).
    90 books in 2015?

  • I haven't read the books or watched the show but my guess would be to watch the show.

He's told HBO how he would like the series to end.  I guess even he knows his health will fail before finishing the book series.

Oh, I didn't know this! Maybe I will just do both. :)

  • What Booney said!

The show is amazing, but come on. They can't compare to the experience of reading the epic that is GOT.

I'm so disappointed that the show is going to pass the books :(

  • Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the show. It's quite entertaining. But really it just takes characters with the same names, gives them garb that's similar to the books, and that is where the similarities end. Almost EVERY plot point is different or substantially altered so as to make it not what the book depicted.

Also, being HBO, there's bare T&A & d*cks in every.other.scene. While the book also has plenty of that, it's not every 15 pages. It gets so dang old. Too many brothel scenes for pete's sake.

Definitely read the books, even if you watch the show. But know that if you start with the books first, it will probably take you 400 pages before names start to stick and make sense. That is one beauty of the show - names are easier to remember when there are faces to match.

  • Stupid Nest! Anywho, the brothel scenes are 100% for Pete's sake ;)

I've tried to read the books, but super detailed epic books are just not my thing. I really enjoy the tv show, though.
