Mean Streak SPOILER POST

ok.  so here is what bugged me.  The more I think about it the more bugged I become.....

Why the fuck did Rebecca and her daughter have to move and assume new identities because of Hayes.  Why do they have to hide because he doesn't want to be found for his good deeds.  I could see him hiding out because he doesn't want to be the "hero" but how the hell does that have any bearing on Rebecca's life what so ever?

Sure she could be tracked down, but she could also tell people that she doesn't know where her brother is and tell the to go the fuck away.  I think the whole changing your identity was a bit on the EXTREME side.

Re: Mean Streak SPOILER POST

  • I can't say I don't agree with you.  But by having her do that, it clearly is to make the reader think he did something horroble vs being a hero.
    Ploy? Yes. But it worked.

  • I totally agree!  It's not like people would be banging on her door day and night interrogating her.

What really bothered me was the whole hero aspect.  You go through this whole ordeal and allow your sister to uproot her life to avoid being thanked???  At first, I was hoping he was being framed for something.  That would have been justifiable.

    Exactly!!!!!!!

I thought for sure he was hiding because he was being framed.  Especially after  he brought her back and saw her husband.  The author made it seem as if he recognized her husband from somewhere, so I was thinking that somehow the husband was involved with framing him for something.

I thought the SAME THING.  I thought the husband and those two dumb brothers were intertwined in some way that involved him being framed.

Also, what cop do you know that would spend all that time tracking someone down just so he can face the victims families.  It's his choice.... leave him be.

  • I think the book hinted that she changed her identity because that one cop kept hounding her.
Or am I making that up?

No.  That one cop Jack, was trailing and hounding her.

But did I read wrong that in the end, the sister and the cop kind of had a thing going?

It was just one line or so at the end.  Found it ....

"Rebecca told me she'd written to you."

"She got my address from Jack Connell.  She wanted to thank me for 'knocking some sense into you."

He snuffled.  "Sounds like her."  He arched his eyebrow.  "She reached you through Connell, huh?  She mention him in her letter?"

    "Several times."

"Uh-huh.  I get it, too.  From both of them.  I think they have a thing."

  • Which I find odd, because if they had a thing for each other, why all the sneaking and lying and avoiding.

If Rebecca knew the details about Hayes working with Jack and shit, why didn't she just tell Jack to accept the fact that Hayes just wants to be left alone and if he wanted to be contacted, than he would have given Jack his number.  And why the fuck did Jack care so damn much about finding Hayes.  Get over it.
