NMR: Pet Strollers

Are pet strollers safe to push cats in or can dogs attack cats in them?

I'm thinking about getting one but have some reservations.

Re: NMR: Pet Strollers

  • Don't know the answer to this.... but I know that my cat would absolutely hate this.

  • Yeah I wonder that too with my cats. I know someone whose bunny rabbit and cat loved it.
  • My dog is cat aggressive but people friendly, and I doubt if he saw a stroller his mind would go to "cat! must attack!" Then again dogs in our neighborhood are always leashed.
  • I know a couple people that have them. No problems that I've heard. Both cats love it. The one cat loves to lounge while her human gardens. :)

  • I could see our old cat who passed away last year enjoying something like this, but he was a big lazy pudgeball that was usually glued to my side :) . Our other cats are much more content to walk on a leash and explore things...I'm not too familiar with the strollers--can the cats easily jump/out or are they harnessed in? I'd be worried about my indoor cats taking off, or if it's what I'm picturing I think it would be fairly easy for an off leash dog to get close...
  • I would certainly think a cat would be much safer in a stroller than walking on a leash, simply because...although dogs will be able to smell them...they won't be able to see them.  Plus they won't see them moving.  Both dogs and cats are most attracted to potentially attacking a moving target.

With that said, if a dog really wanted to get at a cat in a stroller, they certainly could.

I used to have a neighbor who would take her 1-year-old baby on a walk every day and her cat would just follow along with them.  It wasn't on a leash or anything.  It just walked along next to the baby stroller.  It was super cute!
