YA Readers/Teachers/Fans Get in Here

I've been given the "spend all our money" order again, so I'm ordering a bunch of YA titles tonight for the library.  What recent releases and soon to be released books are must-haves?

Re: YA Readers/Teachers/Fans Get in Here

  • I recently read Burning Sky and Perilous Sea by Sherry Thomas with the third part due out in October. They were excellent YA.

I also recently finished Thorn by Intisar Khanani, which is a goose girl retelling, and Roses by GR Mannering, which is a beauty and the beast retelling. Both were interesting and easy reads.

Earlier this year I read Stolen Songbird by Danielle Jensen and it was YA fantasy about humanistic trolls, which was different and refreshing.

I've read a few YAs I didn't like this year - Partials by Dan Wells and The Sin Eater's Daughter by Malinda Salisbury. Both had such dreadful Mary Sues and transparent plots. I do not recommend either.

Thank you!  I had The Sin Eater's Daughter on my "maybe" list and I'm taking it off now!

  • Since no one else has posted, I'll post a few more.

The end of last year I read Cinder, Scarlet and Cress by Melissa Meyer. They are fairy tale reboots with a heavy dose of dystopian. Cinder is a cyborg who falls in love with the prince, Scarlet is pursued by lunar wolf/men mercenaries, Cress is trapped in a stellar satellite and then crashes to Earth. They are very entertaining.

As has been discussed on here much lately, the Throne of Glass series by Sarah Maas is excellent.

There is a series about dragons that take the form of humans, act as ambassadors in a human realm - the politics involved and what it means to be both dragon and human. It's by Rachel Hartman, and the first is Seraphina, the second Shadow Scale. It's entertaining but odd, so I don't think it would appeal to everyone.

Jenny Han has a cute series of books that starts with To All the Boys I've Loved Before. The sequel is due out soon. They are relationship focused - both boys and siblings.
