Re: QOTD 4/17

  • I don't know if it counts as "absurd", but I did go through a phase when I was little where I thought I could plant popcorn kernels and get corn plants.

My mom told me she couldn't hear me unless I talked in a big girl voice (aka no whining)...I literally thought she couldn't hear voices at a certain range.  Also that food that touched the ground immediately became poison (another gem from mom).

I also planted a peach pit in our yard thinking we would grow a peach tree...in central Indiana...in the fall...

  • I used to think that I suitcase was actually called a soup-case and could never figure out why we always put clothes in it instead of cans of soup.

My dad would try to convice me that cows were really called giraffes.  When we drove by farms he would point out the window and say "Look!!  Giraffes!!"  Nice huh?

  • I was convinced that a lot of book and movie characters were real and I always asked my mom if we could go visit them.

Also, like many others, I thought that the D in the Disney logo was a G...I was very confused by that one!

  • I believed I was living in a "The Truman Show" type setting.

  • One of my friends told me the New Kids on the Block lived around the corner from her grandparents.  Her parents were from Massachusetts and they used to go back regularly to visit family.  I really thought when she went, she was having snacks with Jordan Knight.  I also wondered why they were famous and much older than us, but they were hanging out with a 7 year old.

My brother wouldn't go downstairs in our house after everyone went upstairs for the night because he said there were alligators playing cards in our dining room.

A former coworker's daughter thought there were some planes without wings.  When you look at them from a certain angle, they do appear wingless.  One day they were at the park, she heard a plane, looked up and said to her mother, "Look, there's another one of those planes without wings."
  • LMAO at these stories  :))

  • @ sjs1013 - you reminded me of a story about my brother's first plane right.  He was about 4 and my parents took him to Florida, (they left me with my grandparents, another childhood trauma).  When the plane was about to take off, he looked out the window and yelled "Mommy, Mommy!!  The wings aren't flapping!!"

We still make fun of him.  :)
