Tara

I remember you had surgery to remove fibroids. Did they remove them all or just a few? Now that we are starting to think about TFAS I am getting really worried about my fibroids. At my 6 week PP appt (nearly 2 years ago, wow that went fast) my doctor told me they should shrink down since I wasn't pregnant anymore and the pregnancy is why they got so big. He said I could do an ultrasound to check on them, but it wasn't required. I haven't had insurance since then and never got the ultrasound. We are really not in a position to pay for surgery and I really want to try without taking any drastic measures. I am scheduling an appointment soon with a gyno and will ask them, but thought I would ask you since you've been there too. Any info you would like to share would be great. Thank you so much!

Re: Tara

  • I had just 1 very, very large fibroid. It was the size of a large melon when it was removed. I had several ultrasounds and an MRIs to see the size of it. When the surgeon successfully removed it, he didn't need to do a hysterectomy, thankfully. He opened me up through my csection scar. The surgery was called a myomectomy.

I think you will be told an ultrasound is needed to determine the size and amount of fibroids you have.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • I was able to get the note from the 2 operations I had when I delivered Abby and they noted the type of fibroids I had. It said I had 2large 4 & 5 cm subserosal fibroids and multiple small ones. When I looked it up I found the position of my firborids shouldn't interfere with TTC. We're still figuring everything out.

  • The size of fibroids can change drastically with time. If I were you, I would get an ultrasound before TTC to be on the safe side.

  • I'm definitely looking into getting an ultrasound to check on things. I hope to schedule and appointment soon.
