Question for already mommas out there - My LO is a hot mess at bedtime, literally. He has to be swaddled or I get no sleep because he is thrashing all around like a fish out of water. He still moves when swaddled, but it takes it down about tenfold. My problem is that he's a sweaty mess every time I pick him up to feed. I have him in a short sleeve onesie under his sleep sack swaddle and I've made sure to only use the cotton lightweight sleep sacks but I'm not sure what else to do? Any suggestions? We turned our a/c on today and I'm pretty sure we're the only one in the area to do so, because for a normal human it's not unbearable yet but LO is so hot, I felt like I had to. We also have our ceiling fan running all the time. I've given up on the cute one zip pjs because they are long sleeve and long pants. This kid barely wears pants anymore (including shorts) because he just gets too hot. I'm out of ideas. Thanks in advance!

Re: PJ/Swaddle

  • What kind of sheet is in the bassinet? Our LO will sweat if laying on anything fleece like or really soft. I actually only have one sheet for my bassinet and ended up putting a swaddle blanket from the hospital over the sheet and she sweats less.
Have you tried a different kind of swaddle or sleep sack from the ones you are using?

  • It's just a cotton sheet as well. We're using the halo sleep sacks right now and love them except the sweat factor. Maybe I'll put a hospital blanket on the mattress tonight and see if it helps. Thanks @Sewilson33!

Having the a/c on should help. The temperature should be cooler for him. You can always put more clothes on him than you can take off. Also, warm temps are associated with SIDS. So just keep it cooler in the house and go from there.

  • @JennaHack - The SIDS risk is what really scares me. I'm under a blanket already and the fan is on high but this kid is just so warm. Haha. Short of sleeping him in only a diaper, which makes us all sleep horribly, I can't think of anything except dropping the a/c down a little farther.

Just drop the a/c down. He'll be fine. Just throw another blanket on your bed for you. ;-)
