Re: Thursday Randoms

  • I work in a casual office, so most days it's jeans and a tshirt, sneakers. But today I did my makeup and hair, wore a blouse and slacks, slipped on heels. I had this moment....

Unfortunately, all this effort was made because I have a wake to attend after work and no time to change. :( :(

My dinner last night was homemade peanut butter by the spoonfuls and gin & tonics.

Did you smell like peanut butter the rest of the night?

    I just snorted- loud!

my allergies are really bothering me this year. I feel like I have hair in my eyes all the time. There are days when I wish I could pluck my eyeballs out of my head, rinse them off, and pop them back in again.

I have bad eye allergies too. My eye doc recommended Zaditor, an over-the-counter remedy for allergy eye. You use it when you aren't wearing your contacts. It's just drops.  You may consider calling your eye doc and seeing if it would be right for you. (I picked mine up at Walmart, and it was affordable.)

  • I'm really irritated about my friend's wedding.  She was my closest friend in college, but we kind of drifted apart after I had kids (I didn't want to go out all the time anymore, she didn't understand why).  Now she's getting married, and while I'm super happy for her, I am just completely irritated by all the goings-on.  I recognize that weddings are big f'in deals.  I DO.  And none of these things are huge deals by themselves.  It's just that it DOESN'T STOP.

-Bachelorette party was a week rental at a condo in Miami.  (1) expensive. (2) A WEEK? I don't have 40 hours of PTO to spend on a bachelorette party. (3) I have a family and other obligations. Others who went also have all of these things, and I got the side-eye for not making it a priority.

-Bridal shower was in the middle of a blizzard.  She was texting me all the way there saying it was just a leeeetle bit of snow and all was fine.  She didn't necessarily say I was an awful person, but she said "do what you think you need to do."  People got snowed in and spent the night at the MOH's house an hour away from where I live (where party was at).

-I just got a text from the MOH with a link to a youtube video saying she is organizing a flash mob and this is our moves that guests have to memorize before the wedding. There will be a practice an hour before the wedding. NOPE. Sorry. I'm Captain No-Fun on this one.

I second the Zaditor - my daughter uses it when the pollen is really bad.  She has super itchy eyes.

My eye doctor has me on not one but two eyedrops for allergic conjuntivitis. I'm using both Alrex and Bepreve. Insurance hates them both, so for a 5ml of the Alrex it's $50 and the Bepreve is $104. It's a fricking racket because there are no generics of either. I'll probably be back to Alaway (OTC and only about $12) because I can't afford that shit.

I love seeing flash mobs, but no way would I agree to be part of one.  It should be voluntary.  Not everyone wants to dance in front of people!

I forgot to mention the bridal shower was a '20s themed masquerade ball.

I really really hope that her bridesmaids soon learn that we are nearly 40 and it's so much better to sit down with some good friends and good wine than it is to plan elaborate parties that people only go to under duress.  And by people, I mean me.  All our other friends think this is all amazing and are living vicariously because they had a lame bridal shower cookout in their mom's backyard where so many shenanigans were had we still talk about it fifteen years later, but it now pales in comparison because nobody had to wear a mask or pretend they were a character in the Great Gatsby.

    Did I say I'm nearly 40?  I meant 25.  ;)
