Re: QOTD 5/14

  • Vegetable? No. Though our neighbors did give us their two extra cucumber plants so we'll see if they do anything.

I love our flower garden. It is more than double in size this year (from 20x4 to 47x4). I can't wait for the plants to start coming in. I only really did perennials this year so I can get it established first.

  • YES!  Our yard has a total of 6 existing flower gardens and I usually get a couple new plants every year.

Our veggie garden is 200 sq feet and we are growing leek, kale, peppers, garlic, tomatoes, beans and potatoes.

We're trying to straighten out our yard. The former owner let everything grow out of control. Maybe well plant something in a few years when the existing plants are managed.
  • I live in an apartment :(

  • We probably will once we get moved in at the new house. Right now all we have is a strawberry plant.

  • DH is in charge of all things yard because if it were up to me I'd say "ooooh, pretty!" buy it, plant it, and it get too much sun or not enough, etc. I do get to help pick them, but H tells me if they'll work or not. We currently have azaleas, petunias, begonias, "polka dot plant", knockout roses, and dianthus.

  • @ramstein1027: can you do deck plants?  We have a small deck that I literally covered in planters of all sizes.

  • Our garden is up and going. The only thing we need to add is some flowers.

We have a space for blueberries that is separate because they need different soil.

We also have tomatoes, bell peppers, hot peppers, green beans, summer squash, lettuce, radishes, carrots, and a few other things I'm sure I'm forgetting.

  • @kittenwine that's a good idea :)  I want to get a hanging planter and maybe a few little other plants.
I'm torn though because we have a major spider problem (like...hundreds of huge ones at night during the summer--all over the patio...ugh).  We have sprayed for them in the past but will that affect the plants I have there?
    image
  • ^^eeeeeew!  Are you spraying on the ground?  If so, I don't think the toxins from that will hurt the plants if it becomes airborn. But I can't say for sure/
    image
  • @kittenwine we spray the siding and ceiling (we're on the 2nd floor).  It's the siding of our building and the wood above the patio that they love...ugh I am getting chills just typing that.  I hate spiders!

  • uuuuugh, now I'm itcy!

That's terrifying. I tried to post a creepy gif too, but my new computer is making it difficult.

  • My landscaping has plants. I have hydrangeas, lilies, hostas, and some random bushes the previous owners planted. There are also bleeding hearts that I've been trying to kill. Seriously those things are like dandelions!
  • I'm doing a veggie patch for the first time. 90 sq ft with sugar snap peas, carrots, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, and hot peppers. Peas, carrots, and cukes are in the ground already and growing, beans are going in this week, and tomatoes and both peppers are growing like wild in the house. I'm adding marigolds to try and fend off bunnies and encourage bee pollination. Should be interesting! I also have 4 flower garden beds, mostly perennials and shrubs with some hardy annuals (re: geraniums). We mulched yesterday and they look gorgeous.
