We Need to Talk About Kevin recs?

Hi everyone! I just finished We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver, which I can't say I enjoyed, exactly, but found totally riveting. Does any one have any recs for similarly dark and twisted books?

Re: We Need to Talk About Kevin recs?

  • I haven't read We Need to Talk About Kevin yet although I've heard so many good things I have it on my want to read list. You might enjoy 19 Minutes by Jodi Picolt, that's also about a school shooting, that one was really good, a few different perspectives.

  • I started We Need to Talk About Kevin. I'm only 22 pages in. So far it's pretty good, but please tell me it gets better. I'm just frustrated with the mother, I honestly don't care if she lived abroad before having a child. Will the book eventually get into what happened with their son and why?

I haven't read it yet but based on the title, I would assume they talk about her son.

  • Ok, I know it's a long (400 or so pages) book I was just hoping by 20 pages in I'd be more hooked. I'll keep going, I have a hard time getting into books. It took me more than 50 pages to get into Gone Girl.

If you're only 20 pages in, that means you've only gotten about 5% into the book.

Yes...however, how many pages should you read before you decide if a book is good or not? At some point if a book is that bad don't you put it down?

Haha yeah I figured they'll be something wrong with him if it has to do with a school shooting. Again I just wish the mom would move on to the main story. I have that same issue with Jodi Picoult, sometimes books go off topic for no reason.

Although yes, hopefully after 22 pages her stories and ramblings tie back into the story.

    If you're kidding - I literally LOL'd.

If you're not joking - I've never read the book. I'm just assuming.

I think it's funny, one would hope Kevin has something to do with the book. P.S. I'm a little further along, it's finally picking up.
