Newbie to Fertility Treatment

Hello!
Summery: TTC since January 2014 (I'm 30, DH:38), started with fertility specialist in March. Blood work showed lower end but normal FSH, AMH, and TSH. HSG test was clear, waiting for DH to get tested now. Over the counter Fertility Trackers never show a surge, going into month 5 with no surge on the stick.
TTC is really bumming me out, feeling like a failure every time Aunt Flo comes to town...any help on dealing with all these emotions?

Re: Newbie to Fertility Treatment

  • Sorry you find yourself in this situation, but welcome to the board!

Are you saying that you're having a period every month, but never an LH surge?

I'm assuming the OTC fertility trackers you're referring to are OPK's, right? If so, that sounds like an expensive habit for the past 5 months! A much more affordable and reliable option, if you're willing to commit to it, is daily BBT tracking with an app like Fertility Friend. They also have a lot of helpful tutorials to guide you. A lot of the other ladies on here have found "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" to be helpful as well.

Many of us completely understand your frustration and disappointment. There are a lot of really smart ladies on here to learn from, so definitely stick around!

Everything FMW said. IF sucks! I would also recommend fertility friend to see if you actually ovulate. Also, talk to your RE about checking your levels towards the end of your cycle to see if you ovulate. Do you have regular cycles?

  • Everything PP have said.

As for dealing with your emotions, it helped me to have someone to talk to who went thru it and understood what I was going thru.

Stick around.  You'll get to know some wonderful ladies, with lots of knowledge.

I am having a regularly scheduled period, just no LH surge. The Fertility Doc thinks I am having a non ovulating cycle because it is also crazy heavy and lasts no more than 2 days. Investigating endometriosis as well and (joy) just had some cervical biopsies taken from an abnormal pap. All in all my baby making parts are batting ZERO.

Considering a therapist to get through all this...DH is pretty overwhelmed with all the testing and appointments...we've only just started!

Hmmm... I always thought that if you didn't ovulate your cycles were super long (60+ days), but either way, I hope your doc is able to figure things out for you. Monitoring your temperature daily is probably the most accurate way to determine if you're ovulating or not (aside from constant lab draws monitoring for an LH surge that is). Committing to that can sometimes add to the stress though... IF is no bueno, for sure.
