The great TV debate

Hi again!!

I realize I'm asking a lot of questions lol just ignore me if I get to be too much :P

My husband and I are only really home one day a week, which means we don't get a lot of use out of our tv (i think). I can do with out it completely. In fact, before moving in with DH I didn't own a TV at all!  He "needs" it for watching boxing and soccer.  I agree that he deserves this small luxury to unwind. So we pay for cable. The problem is that he often isn't home to watch what he wants to watch any way!

So the question is. Is there a way for my DH to watch UFC and soccer (in spanish preferably) without us paying for dvr and an entire bundle we don't use?  I've looked into roku but it doesn't look like there are many options for watching sports.

Thanks again for your help/insight! xox

I don't know if Sling offers the channel you need or not, but you might want to check them out.

Also, sometime in June Apple is supposedly going to announce a similar, live streaming subscription package (no contract) that will have the same channels as Sling plus some of the networks.  I think they are planning on rolling it out in September.  If you guys can wait that long, I would suggest seeing what Apple ends up offering before making any decisions.

TV does seem to be moving away from cable.  H and I are hoping to make that break ourselves soon.  If Apple ends up offering Fox Sports, I think H will be on board.

  • We are able to watch everything on ESPN and associated networks except for MLB stuff and blacked out local teams using our Apple TV and a login borrowed from H's mom. Sometimes the app is fritzy and we watch on smartphones instead.
  • This isn't really aboveboard, but DH is a big Ireland rugby fan and even if we wanted to pay for those channels, they aren't available here. He is able to find streams of the games pretty easily and usually there are multiple languages available. He mostly uses wiziwig and firstrowsports.
  • If it wasn't for live sports we would probably cut cable and use Hulu, Netflix and whatever else is out there for free/cheap.  DH is able to find some online streaming sites for baseball games that we can't get in our home market.

  • H is big into online streaming for anything that we can't find on TV, especially sports. I'm not sure what site he uses but I can update later once I get a chance to ask him. We don't have cable and use a mixture of Sling TV, Netflix, Hulu and split our internet line to get a few basic channels.
  • Check out Amazon Prime. But he still won't get UFC fights. Have him just go to a bar with a buddy for that.
