Lurker with a question - apps?

Hi folks. I'm not around this board much, but figured you might have an answer for me on this. I'm in the market for a budgeting app for Android. I used Level for a short period of time and loved it - being able to see how much I had available to spend in a given day without going over budget was super helpful - but then for some reason my bank abruptly stopped syncing to the app. I've since tried Mint as well, and guess what? Same problem. I think it's my bank's problem, but I have no idea what to do about it. Any idea how to circumnavigate this, or general recommendations for finance apps?

  • I use Good Budget but I don't sync with my bank accounts (but the capability is there for an upgraded version).

It makes me uneasy to have companies have access to my bank accounts, so I keep a cushion in my checking account and then I know I'm okay as long as I stick to the budget.

  • I also use good budget also and love it. I'm also on the side that I don't like having it linked to my bank account or credit card information. I would rather take the time to enter the information in myself and protect my account information.

I second all of this. I like Good Budget. It's a well-organized, user-friendly app with a nice clean interface and you can be as specific as you'd like with it, but I also take the time to manually enter my financial information so I do not have to directly link the third-party app to my bank accounts. I feel like there is too much cybercrime out there already for me to voluntarily add-on this type of vulnerability.

  • I have also gotten into the habit (most of the time anyway) of entering the purchase into the app while I'm standing at the register or as soon as I get into the car.  DH isn't as good but getting better.

I also reconcile our credit card statement to the app each month to make sure we've not missed stuff.

  • I really like You Need a budget (have it on iPhone) but I'm pretty sure it's available on android. Cost a bit, but has been so worth it (my dh was always forgetting to enter in receipts, and being able to do it on his phone has made him much better).

Dave Ramsey just came out with Every Dollar. I started using it a couple days ago. You can pay to have it sync with your bank. It is not yet available for android, but you can go through your web browser.
