I have both out from the library and can't decide which to listen to first.
I'll put links to the descriptions in the comments.

I have not; this is all new to me.

This may just be me, but I couldn't stand the narrator for The Gunslinger. I actually returned the audiobook to Audible and decided to read a physical copy instead. So I vote for the other one :)

  • Also be warned that The Gunslinger is not a great book, at least IMO, and in many people who've talked to me about it. The series IS great, and it gets better after The Gunslinger. The series itself is so worth getting through The Gunslinger.

I would NOT recommend listening to this on audio.  The first book (and even SK says this) is confusing and weak.  But you have to push through that one to get to the awesomeness of the series.  I tried twice to listen to it (after having tried to read it several times) and I was lost.  I then tried to read it again (when we did the group read here) and got through it.
The Dark Tower series is my favorite series after HP.  Book 1 was hard though.
Listen to the other one.  Read book 1.
Page me as you go.  I'd love to see your reaction.

I so need to get back to rereading all of my SK books just to get to the Dark Tower books again!

    OMG what a journey!!!

  • Thanks for all the input, guys!  And especially thanks to @myJunegirls - I think of you as something of an SK expert, so to hear you be critical of something is serious business!  I'll listen to the other one and return the Gunslinger audio.  I'll pick up the book soon, though.  I've heard so many good things about that series and I've been meaning to read it for a long time.  Ooooh, and now I can read it on my new kindle!
  • Keep me posted as you read it!  It really is an amazing series!!!
