We met with our contractor today to talk over plans for our master bath remodel. We are using the same contractor that did our kitchen, he did a fabulous job and we trust him with our house key (to the point that he still has the key from our kitchen remodel last summer) as he is a friend. Very rough numbers have this costing us about $10,000 and we will be paying mostly cash and using our HELOC to make up any overages.
For this remodel I'm going to try really hard to focus on the BIG PICTURE of this project and not worry about incremental costs (within reason). With our kitchen there were a few projects that we didn't do because they cost more money than we wanted to spend and I don't want to nickel and dime the master bathroom the same way.
Our master bathroom is HUGE, roughly 13 feet long by 10 feet wide (not including the closet, which is also massive). Here are pictures of what it looks like now.
The door in the first picture is the water closet (toilet) and just out of the picture is another door to a narrow linen closet that is very awkward (deep and narrow).
The door in the second picture is the double doors into the closet. It is about 5 feet wide by 10 feet deep and currently open air at the top to the bathroom and bedroom.
The window and toilet are the only things that we are keeping. Everything else is going to be replaced and some things are moving.
We are adding heated floors and new tile, new vanity, new mirrors, eliminating the tub, expanding the shower, updating the lighting, changing the linen closet (possibly replacing it with linen cabinets), new doors, closing up part of the current closet door and adding a pocket door to give more wall space, new trim, closing up the "volleyball net" opening with drywall from the bathroom to the closet and with both drywall and glass from the bedroom to the bathroom (paying extra for glass to allow the light from the skylight to still pass into the bedroom).
Once this project is done we only have one more remodel in store and that is the guest bathroom and that will probably be a few years down the road. Other projects are smaller (refinishing doors, new flooring etc) and we will be able to cash flow the expenses or save up the cost in a few months since they will be way cheaper than kitchen and bathroom remodels.
After this we will be turning our attention to the front curb appeal. We have some peeling paint on the facade and we really need a new garage door and some landscaping.
Re: AW: April's Master Bathroom Remodel
You have a great space to work with! Huge! Nice ideas as well, please keep us posted with pics.
I love that big window
I'm not sure "fun" is going to be the right word, but it will be worth it.
Oh that sucks. We should have looked into doing that with our kitchen remodel, it took almost 8 weeks. We did take a 4-day vacation during that time to get away, but that was a rough time. We just couldn't escape the mess due to the location of the kitchen and then we were limited to grilling and microwaving our meals.
PS- your inspiration pics look like one of my Pinterest boards! I hope it turns out just how you want it.

I'm another vote for oil-rubbed bronze! I'm biased because that's what we have used throughout our house, but I just really love the finish. Plus if that's what is in the rest of your house, I'm one that likes to see coordination throughout.
Excited to see progress reports!!!
