Moving to crib question

This is going to be a little long so bear with me...
Our house is set up where our master bedroom is on the main floor and we have the nursery and guest bedroom on the lower level. We converted our basement into a finished space with full windows and a walk out den.
Currently LO is in a pack n play (as of 2 nights ago) in our bedroom. I feel she needs to be moved to her crib but I always said I wanted her crib in our bedroom until she was 6 months and fully sleeping through the night. I have been asking DH to move the crib up to our room and he is fighting me on it saying if we are going to transition her we might as well move her downstairs.
My problem with that is that she wakes up 2 times a night as of recently. Our downstairs isn't even fully finished yet. The stairs aren't carpeted, the landing is just plywood and we are missing base molding in all the rooms. DH solution to the stairs issue is that we can move OURSELVES into the guest room until she starts sleeping through the night.
My routine at night is she falls asleep in her rocking chair, for now, wakes up gets her diaper changed on MY dresser, a bottle, and rocks back to sleep. Her nursery does not have a changing table yet or the rocking chair. So to move her down we would have to move my dresser and the rocking reclining chair and all her night time feeding supplies would have to be down there so I don't need to go up to the kitchen at night.
I'm really not ready to be a floor away from her and I also think it's silly to move the 2 pieces of furniture in our room instead of just moving her crib.
I do 100% of the bedtime and night time feedings so I feel like I should have my way since it's my routine. I do understand it's important to move her to her nursery but it's not right to do so if the whole lower level isn't fully finished.

What do you think about our situation? DH has already told me I'm being crazy and irrational but I want a Mom's opinion.

Re: Moving to crib question

  • I can't speak from personal experience, but I wouldn't want to move her down to a level where you still have construction to complete. I'd be afraid of her napping and stuff and being bothered by the noise of the work.

  • what's the problem with the pack and play? is she not sleeping in it well? or are you just worried she may not transition to the crib well?

I don't think I'd want to put a baby down in an unfinished space, how much would it take to get the lower level finished?

  • @formerlyGDaisy09 she sleeps in the pack n play just fine... I just want her to be used to the crib more than the pack n play.
I guess I could have her just stay in the pack n play if that's the more logical thing to do.

  • Agree with Venti. If you're worried about transitioning to the crib at some point, we've been having the boys nap in their cribs during the day, so it's not totally unfamiliar when we do put them in the cribs at night (our bedroom and their room are also on different floors).

  • Every baby is different, but DD slept better once we moved her out of our room and into her crib.  I think it's because we were no longer making noise while she was sleeping, when we were coming to bed or getting ready in the morning.  It also helped that I no longer heard her every move, so I slept better as well.

So me personally, I would say to move her to the crib in her room.  If you find it to be a royal PITA, then I would move the crib into your room after giving it a week or so.

  • Thanks everyone!
I rhink I will stick with the pack n play for now since she is not having an issue with it. Her sleeping changes are from a growth spurt or teething ( as per her dr ). Once she starts sleeping 6-8 hours again I will try the crib.

  • Similar situation here. Main level master, with nursery upstairs. FWIW, we had them in RNPs in our room until 4.5 months or so. Then we put them in PNPs in our room for a month or so. Around 6mo, we moved them into their cribs in their room, and we slept in the guest room.

We *just* moved ourselves back to our room, as Z doesn't wake up, and G was down to one wake up.

Of course then we went on vacation, and sleep went out the window haha

That said, the rocking chair is in their room, and I just use a changing pad wherever to change them (and we don't do overnight changes unless poopy.)

  • I can't speak from personal experience because LO was in a crib in his room since night one at home. But I think your answer is in you saying you're not ready. If you were ready, you'd find a solution for all the other concerns.

  • I'm with you... if you are doing everything at night, it's what is easiest for you.

If it were me, I'd move the crib into our room myself.   Or I would do the day naps in the crib, keep the pack and play for night time and make the night transition when renovations are complete.
